Koetter isn't going anywhere

RE: Koetter isn't going anywhere
I am more concerned with stopping returns than getting huge returns. Though getting a TD on a return is exciting it really doesn't turn a game that much. Remember Weems return in the 2010 playoff game? The thing is punters are getting more accurate, kicking the ball farther and achieving more hang time than in the past and kick offs are to the point that returns are almost not existent. Returning is becoming neutralized. Coverage is the key for pinning teams back deep. I don't remember us giving up a TD on a return this year. That is good.

According to the article the only interview that actually took place was the one with the Chiefs.

But I was excited to see this new on the bottom of ESPN. Now gotta keep Nolan and Armstrong. Keith Armstrong is one of the best special teams coaches in the NFL.

RE: Koetter isn't going anywhere
While I wouldn't mind retaining Nolan, he really wants and deserves a chance at a head coaching position. If he gets an offer and takes it, I think we might be OK. After all Mike Smith has experience as defensive coordinator and probably learned a ton from Nolan. All he has to do is hire someone who has coached alongside Nolan before and wants to come in and run basically the same schemes. There should be a lot of good candidates who fit that bill.

Nolan has said he doesn't want to be a head coach anymore.

Please God let this be true. I don't think he's that easily replaced. Sure you could find someone who runs a similar scheme but that's not where the magic is. The greatest thing about Nolan is his creative ability to adapt his schemes and philosophies to the talent on both a macro level and the ability to game plan based on the opponent and to adjust mid game. Pretty much the opposite of what we had with Van Pornstache.

Smith has shown he lets the coordinators do their jobs without micromanaging, which is good, but it also magnifies the importance of making a good hire.

Like I said before, we need to pay Nolan head coach money and make him our Johnson or Lebeau. If we do that I can see us building a truly dominant defense over the next few years. Honestly I think that is the path to multiple Super Bowls more so than the offense, i.e. I think it would be much easier to replace the OC if we had to.

I heard the same thing too. But money talks. And, is he happy here?
