Dirk Koetter is staying put. Citing a team source, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator and head-coaching candidate has signed a contract extension with Atlanta. The Falcons later confirmed Koetter would remain with the team. A source told FOXSports.com's Alex Marvez the extension runs through next season. Koetter's name was gaining traction as seven teams continue their coaching searches. The 53-year-old assistant met with the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday and had interviews scheduled with the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles. It's possible Koetter didn't like his chances of winning a job and chose a sure thing with the Falcons. He will continue to work with quarterback Matt Ryan and an offense that turned up the volume in 2012. Koetter is a well-respected offensive mind who helped the Falcons turn out a franchise-record 281.8 passing yards per game en route to grabbing the top seed in the NFC. Now to see if Nolan wants to be a HC again. I highly doubt he would do a one year stint when he could have been a HC again in previous seasons. |

RE: Koetter isn't going anywhere
I'm real happy for Koetter, I remember how EVERYONE was so unsure of him coming from Jacksonville. Awesome how well this all worked out, hopefully he continues to get the most out off Ryan and co.

The majority of it has been solid, especially coverage, but punt returns have been a nightmare. A returner that can consistently set up field position is a game changer. Seems like we haven't had one since Rossum. |

I was one of those that had my doubts about replacing Mularkey but have not been disappointed with the job Koetter has done. Moving from a power running team to a passing team is difficult but Koetter did it without much drop-off, outside of our running game being terrible now. ![]() (01-02-2013 12:54 PM)mdrake34 Wrote: The majority of it has been solid, especially coverage, but punt returns have been a nightmare. I am not very concerned about Armstrong moving on, to be honest. I am more concerned about GM/HC/OC/DC staying and maintaining continuity, until we win a few Super Bowls. |
