In this first image, Massaqoi has caught the ball running across the middle. He's got the ball in his hands and he is just beginning the process of turning his head to continue up field.

Ok, this next picture is taken a step later. Massaqoi has fully turned his head and sees Harrison in perfect position to stick him. At this point, he has fully establised possession of the ball, is running upright, and can no longer be considered a defenseless receiver.

The next image is taken one step later. Massaqoi, seeing Harrison in perfect position to stick him right in his sternum and possibly break every bone in his rib cage, decides to go low and take the hit on squared up. Bad decision. At this point Harrison still has his head up and is moving in to make the hit, as he should.

Moment of impact. Massaqoi has opted to try and get low to take on the hit rather than get his midsection obliterated. Because of that decision, Massaqoi's helmet runs into Harrison's shoulder, which would have other wise gone directly into Massaqoi's midsection. He's gotten so low in fact, that his legs are bent at a 90 degree angle at the knees and his body is at 45 degrees. In two full speed steps he has gone from standing upright to halfway to the fetal position. Harrison is clearly not leading with the helmet nor has he launched himself. He is just in position to make a good solid hard tackle.

So....let's review.

No launch.
No helmet to helmet contact.
Massaqoi lowered his head into Harrison's shoulder pad.

I honestly have no idea what the NFL thinks that Harrison should have done differently.

That is a great break down. Any chance we can get one of these for Dunta's hit?

Well everyone knows that the Dunta hit was good except for Ray Anderson and Mike Florio apparently.

The media has been all over Harrison though and I just thought he got a raw deal so I wanted to break the play down.

I'll see if I can get to the Dunta hit in a little bit.

Half the fine has to be for what he said, The NFL is getting serious about concussions and he comes out and says this...

Quote:"You hate to see anyone down like that, but then you realize he just went to sleep for a little bit and he came out of it and he's going to be OK. That's football," Harrison said, shrugging.

But his hit was unlucky as the guy went down to regather the ball but you cant say he didnt launch, the next picture in the sequence would be of Harrison jumping thru the air lol

The Steelers excused Harrison from practice today because he's seriously considering retirement after all of this.

Well you know, he does kind of fly through the air after the hit. Ironically, the reason is that he really didn't catch him that cleanly.

I am sure that he is just blowing off some steam. Be kind of funny if he did retire. It would make a lot of offensive players in the AFC North happy.

I've got to wonder what the NFL's response is going to be to him. Harrison actually said
Quote:I'm going to sit down and have a serious conversation with my coach tomorrow and see if I can actually play by NFL rules and still be effective. If not, I may have to give up playing football.
Tuesday on Into The Night with Tony Bruno.

Is Harrison serious, is he an anomaly in this case, or would he be the first of many defensive players to question their ability to play within the new NFL rules?

And I've got to wonder, what if this was a defensive cash cow like Ray Lewis or Troy Paolamalu? They are both notorious for their hard hits, how will they fair under the NFL's new rules?

If I was Mike Tomlin I would have kindly asked Harrison to unwad his leopard-print panties and help lead the team to the super bowl, and think about this shit in March.

You know, you just made me think of something interesting. James Harrison is among the very best players in the NFL. He won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year just two seasons ago, and made the longest INT return in Super Bowl history in spectacular fashion that very same season. (Which I had a spectacular sideline view of by the way)

But you don't see him on a lot of commercials and getting a lot of endorsements. It must be his sparkling personality.

He'll get over it. I bet you he is back at practice tomorrow.
