RE: Is Spoon overrated by our fan base ?
I can't think of anyone on our D that isn't overrated, at least not after these last 2 games.

It's like everybody's weaknesses on that side of the ball were just put on display for the world to see. Our DL looks like it just needs a complete overhaul. Spoon was balling early in the season, he just fell off somewhere along the way. He's coming along and probably still has his best years ahead of him. The rest of that LB leaves a whole lot to be desired. At one point, I thought Dent was progressing as the season went on. Over the past few games, he's looked like a rookie. And for Nic, I don't even know where to begin. He just got embarrassed yesterday. This is my signature. |

RE: Is Spoon overrated by our fan base ?
The culprit is not Sean Weatherspoon. I dont think yall are truly watching the games. People know we have a weak part of our defense.
They don't throw to Asante, they throw to Dunta They don't go at Weatherspoon, they go at Nicholas They don't challenge Moore, they challenge Decoud When the ball isn't coming your way its difficult to be a difference maker. Weatherspoon isn't all pro just yet and he has some improving to do but he would be much closer if tje deficiencies on the other side wouldn't allow teams to run away from him. The one pass sent Weatherspoon way he defended it. The runs to the right side of the defense were stymied and the middle 50/50 Wifh all this said I truly challenge Swift to create a positive thread. People dislike him because of his past and disdain to say anything positive about a team that came practically one play away from the SB. Obviously I cant see what he wrote because I blocked him but the title and responses says it all for me. Its sad but he is within the rules so he can technically continue to do what he has been doing. |

I think he's a player with Pro Bowl potential who regressed a bit compared to last year, but is still a good player we should keep for the long term.

That was a bit of hyperbole, but I still stand behind my point that Spoon sucks at tackling. RE: Is Spoon overrated by our fan base ?
I wasn't sold on spoon when we drafted him...but seriously he has matured into a great leader for our D....I loved lofton and was sad to see him go, then he went to the saints....and I put him in the traitor pile. Spoon will continue to grow our problem was our whole defense.....we need to add some young high motor talent (like spoon ) to this defense.....
I do think we should stress tackling first because we had a lot of big plays where the guy was hit but not wrapped up.... If we add a Kearny like DE, a mauling NT, and a LB/DB tweener (one of those smaller LB that has massive speed) on this defense for Nolan and he will start tearing it up.....his defensive scheme always needed high energy tweener players (the good news for us...there are plenty because most teams won't the proto-type LB/DB/DL......Nolan made SF defense go from 24 to 18 to 5 now he isn't there but his guys are now one of the top.......we will get there....we didn't have a lot of cap room last year....and really we didn't do very much at all for our defense...... Jury is still out on Massaqou, I still think the kid has potential if he can learn nolan's style......but we still need more LB.....our LB core and DE situation is TERRIBLE....I like Bierman but we need one of the two DE pressuring the QB and While bierman is decent he needs to improve....love his motor hate his techniques they are sloppy. Thought Sidbury might blossom this year and Jerry also....but they didn't....Jerry did okay this year but still not the disruptive person we chose him for. |
