Im estatic about the win ..with that being said Sam Baker
WTF is he doing out there ..penalties , getting blown up and more penalties..
I thought we had a franchise T he just needs to get his act together... Matt Ryan was great yesterday he reminded me of the player in 08' poised handled himself well in pocket made some big time throws...The throw in OT to Harry Douglas needs to be made and im glad we won cause that throw was ready to haunt us .. Defense outside some break downs in coverage played well..We allowed Drew Brees to rack up those yards and play safe and everything underneath. JA98 made some big plays in OT getting pressure up the middle. JA55 I wanted him to end Drew Brees career he had perfect blind side hit Weatherspoon has def impressed me with running sideline to sideline ..and making some crunching hits.. Roddy White >>>>>>>>>>> Tony G was as clutch as they come making some great catches with pure hands... Ryan still stares him down but yesterday he should have the Saints coverage scheme on him was a joke Turner was ok / he has some nice runs late but everything seemed bunched up inside .. Ovie had a nice game blocking as well Dunta Robinson needs to do a better job in coverage we got lucky on a Saints drop that could have went a long way on a called blitz |

I don't think it was a bad throw. He missed by less than a foot. One could argue that had HD stepped it up or laid out for the ball it would have been a reception and we'd have won without drama.
In any event, it's ironic to me that those who complain about Ryan lacking arm strength are apparently still content to whine when he OVERthrows a receiver by inches. |

RE: Im estatic about the win ..with that being said Sam Baker
I haven't watched the replay of the game yet - but I was at the game and I was watching that play. Harry got hit as he left the line. That threw him off. Then, I don't know if it's true or not - but it looked to me like he slowed down - then when he saw the ball - sped up. It looked from where I was sitting that if he'd kept running - he would have caught that ball in stride.
That's based on live action - which can be deceiving. I still have to see the recorded game. ![]()

Baker's not going anywhere unless he gets hurt again, which will probably happen. Everyone focuses on 3 or 4 plays from him but for the rest of the game he is solid. He needs to cut down on penalties but I believe I read something Smitty said about that recently. It was along the lines of the new placement for the umpire puts him in prime position to catch more holds by the LT than in previous years. It is possible that he got away with more the last two years and is just getting caught now. I don't know of any data to support if LT holds are going up around the league but it is an interesting theory.

RE: Im estatic about the win ..with that being said Sam Baker
Oh and sorry about the sidebar back to the post Swifty yes Sam has been bothering me whenever someone starts the we need another....rb, wr, etc, etc.... I am the first one to say I am ready to trade for an all pro LT.
Matt Ryan was the F*n TRUTH yesterday I wanted that game so much that QB sneak where he lowered his narrow shoulders and powered through a LB not a DB but a LB was a thing of inspsiration!! Not to mention his poise in the pocket, and eh hem arm strength!! Tired of everyone saying noodle arm and the guranteed pic per game crowd can bite it. If HD doesnt get checked hard at the line they connect on that play, and the TD to Roddy was beautifully timed. No to mention leadership and fire he proved in the huddle and the sidelines! Agreed I think after the near heart attack feeling wore off I could appreciate the D alot more. I was totally pissed how Shockey ran around underneath all game but in light of keeping it in front of them and the pics on the seemingly flawless one Brees I am satisfied. I was nit picky of Duanta after his Cards game and wanted him to come out and show me he was indeed the lockdown CD he was paid to be and he failed to do that! He would have cost us if the ball wasnt dropped too many times yesterday, but kudos for at least recovering enough to trip and cause the deep drop while burnt. My JA98 hate has been strong since year one but yes against the Cards and the Saints he has shown some worth in crushing the pocket and laying some crushing hits much to my surprise! JA55 Is a non stop BEAST even after getting that nasty eye poke he comes back out to cause Brees Hell what a warrior, wished Kroy could take a few notes I was a big Beer man fan but want to see something from him soon. Weatherspoon is gonna be great and has been playing good for a rookie out there. My heart sank when he was carted off glad it was only cramps, no doubt from running all over the field. Roddy was great as always but TG saved the day today. Someone in a thread said that the Saints would be vulnerable to the TE attack and I thought no way they leave TG uncovered. They didnt leave him uncovered but sure didnt double him and he was a big part of winning the game for us converting many a timely 3rd down. And yet another sign of my near heart attack frustration was with the run game getting stone walled with the dives first half. But now that I have had time to think and see it totalled to 202 yards how can one complain? I was thinking Turners graoin kept him from having a burst or pull away speed on that edge run where he picked up a chunk but hey he picked up a chunk so why complain. Really want to see more of Snelling because everything you see makes you want more. And Ovie like I mentioned was a total BEAST all day laying out LB's. |

Baker is decent and can be solid at times, but he's not elite.

If this is true, then we would expect more holding calls from all the LT's in the league. Has this been the case? In my opinion, Baker is presently playing hurt. He has established a pattern of frequent injuries. I suspect that he is nicked up. If he isn't, then I would like to see us find an upgrade in the offseason. Matt Ryan is too valuable to risk. |

To me, from the enzone camera view, Harry seemed to start looking for the ball a little early and slowed down a bit. When he saw the trajectory he turned it on but just missed it. Ryan was trying to hit HD in dead stride. As HD and Ryan get a few more game reps the timing should be better. I love the Falcons and to hell with anyone who doesn't! |
