"New Orleans now has the highest per capita murder rate in the country"

July, 2012

Yup. And it almost all occurs in an area that visitors never see. The reason why New Orleans is such an ideal location for the Super Bowl is that there is more than enough rooms, restaurants and recreation ALL within walking distance of the game's venue. No other location better serves the crowds. That area is also safer than most any other area that has hosted the game.

There were 69 homicides between 8/9/2012 and 12/31/2012 in the metropolitan New Orleans area. None of those took place in or around the French Quarter or the area encompassing the Superdome. It is one of the safest areas in the country.
