RE: I heard on the radio on 790 if we went to the 3-4
I like the 3-4 defense much better . It generates more pass rush and blitz scheme packages
with that said we don't have the 3-4 personel and will take a year or two with free agents and drafts Walker/ Jerry/ Peters all become useless . Peters has a slight shot at 3-4 DE but he lacks any kind of burst to generate a pass rush and would be a 3-4 DE . He would also need to slim down Bierman - stands up is that a good thing ? All I ever see this guy do when he drops back in coverage is just look lost . Understandable they are using him in pass coverage but when he is not rushing at 3-4 rush LB is he going to be able to cover a speed RB out in flat Now you take one of your draft picks Spoon who is a 4-3 OLB by trade you put him inside and let him take the pounding and just be a tackle machine . Spoon and Dent will be inside and now you have Nicholas on outside on a island vs TEs . You take one of your draft picks Spoon who was drafted to be a game changing LB and make pass defends and ints and sacks and bring him inside to take a pounding Don't have any MONSTER NT to man the middle Don't have any 3-4 DE The two players who can benefit the most would be our Safties Decoud and Moore who could make more impact on passing plays in coverage then being forced to play the run as strong . ![]() I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . Don't take me seriously until year 2413 . - Added by Phocis because of this post. Warned here. Do not remove. |

RE: I heard on the radio on 790 if we went to the 3-4
Two things:
I've always been a fan of the 3-4 and we never should have changed the scheme. We need to go back. It is the evolution of today's NFL for defense I don't want any part of the UGA defensive line that looked like toddlers, literally, against Alabama. I am a huge Dawgs fan and that performance spoke volumes of what those guys are like against quality players.

And we couldn't stop the run and got thrown all over until the redzone. Thank goodness for the redzone and the compressing factor it has on the field. We dominated at keeping teams out of the endzone, but only after they dominated us between the 20's. We need different players for the 3-4 to be successful. |

I did too, but Houton and Green Bay showed if you draft right, you could can do it. And get free agents. Wasn't disatrerous moves to them, our biggest problem, was that Mike Vick broke his leg and it was a disateroous season. If Vick had been there, we would still have Reeves and Phliips and we would had another draft. I know these are all whould haves, should have's could have's. But look at the past 5 years at the 4-3. We were at 24th, then last year got to 12th, hard to believe in defense, then this year we regressed back to 12th. The same TD did to the offense he has to do with the Defense. I loved what Warren Sapp said, Defense doe NOT when Super Bowls, but that damn sure help. We need a Gritz Blitz again. It doesn't matter if we have the best secondary in football, until we have players that are fast enough to plant the QB or cause disruption were screwed. The 3-4 causes more disruption and is ten times harder to predict than the 4-3. Just saying

RE: I heard on the radio on 790 if we went to the 3-4
We never had a pure 4-3. We ran 3-4 and 4-2-5 as well. Nolan has more than once said he schemes for personnel. It would be so hard to replace enough people to change up completely. We invested in the nickel last year with Samuel. We have a very good secondary. I wonder how good we would have been with Grimes. The NFCCG was proof that we need pass rush. Had we gotten some hands on Kaepernick than we would have slowed them down and won. Our secondary did so well. All we needed was some coverage sacks.
