RE: I don't really think the problem is Mike Mularkey
It's all Mularkey's fault, the idiot calls the same run play every first down, and it rarely ever works...It isn't Turner, but the D knows exactly what we're doing before we do it.

The ONLY problem I have with that theory is that it should add up to a terrible offense. The Falcons offense isn't terrible, they are top half of the league in points and yards 3 years running. we are a extremely avg football team that were lucky to back into a couple of wins -our defense has been overrated to the competition and offenses we have faced -Mike Smith is a good head coach (outside his tendency to waste a challenges I really have no problems with Smitty ) -Mularkey has no scheme that allows his wrs to get in space.. 2TE sets /predictable play calling 3rd and 1 Turner up the gut..Bootlegs/roll outs..slants.thats it where are the double moves ? where are the passes to open up the middle of the field .? WE ARE RANKED 22 IN YARDS PER PASS ATTEMPT 6.1 Matt Ryan is extremely avg QB that can win football games if games are going his way but has yet to shown he can carry a team when things arent especially like if our running attack gets stop..where has Ryan shown he can take team on his back |

These "predictable" formations are required to keep our QB alive.
You can run out of 3 wr sets. You dont need 3 te and a wr to "give away" its a run. If we would run the ball better on first and second rounds, our options on third down would widen. Cant when they stack the box, know we are running because we run 1 wr tight formations that get stuffed. ![]() Season Ticket Holder - Section 312 |

Not taking a shot a TD or anything I think he is doing a great job. But he has been building through the draft and primarily focussing on defense early on which he should have. But look at the guys that were making plays for the eagles yesterday. Maclin, Jackson, Mccoy, there young there fast and there explosive and they can help any QB get the job done. I am not saying the cupboards bare but it just is not stocked with fresh fruit. Matty is pretty much the only offensive draft pick making an impact.

I will say that I think our poor pass protection is limiting some of the plays that this offense can pull off right now. I do agree with you about 2 and 3 TE sets. Drives me crazy. |

I think we could live with what we have (for now) if the line holds up in pass protection. Maybe Matt doesn't trust them and that's part of the problem ![]() Season Ticket Holder - Section 312 |

RE: I don't really think the problem is Mike Mularkey
We need to address the offensive line. Baker is a major disappointment, McClure is just flat out not getting the job done. The only consistent effort is on the right side of the ball with Dahl and Clabo. Mularkey deserves criticism for some of his playcalling but Mularkey can't make these guys pass protect better.

RE: I don't really think the problem is Mike Mularkey
It's not all his fault but a good bit is.
He does a lot of stupid things...example he sends Ovie to wr, puts Roddy in the slot and then motions Finn to FB and runs turner up the middle - WTF!!!! I get trying to fool a defense but cmon man. There is no reason 6-5 205 Finn should be lead blocking for turner against linebackers and dtackles while ovie is blocking asante. I agree a lot of the blame falls on the line and Ryan- saw 2 plays yesterday where he couldve hit WIDE OPEN players but he went to Roddy, who was well covered, and ovie (gonzo was open for a TD)

And to make things better/worse... it's not like teams are overloading the left side of the line. Baker is getting beat one on one.... and it happened several times yesterday. Even during those rare times when Ryan has a clean pocket to throw from, he still seems to be looking to get the ball out as quickly as possible. Since the 49ers game (Where he got harrassed all day) it appears he no longer trusts this unit to protect him for any amount of time. Unfortunately, I'm starting to see some happy feet again. (10-18-2010 10:13 AM)Peyton Wrote: Even Tony Gonzalez, who still has great hands, is strictly a possession TE now, not capable of getting vertical unless the defense completely blows the coverage. There's no getting around it - Gonzo and Turner have both lost a step. Neither are capable of outrunning a safety anymore. |
