How do coaches factor into the lockout?
With all the talk, I haven't heard much about coaches and other front office staff. My impression is that coaches are kind of lumped with the training facilities, meaning that players do not have access to them.

It seems like they are in a difficult position as far as choosing sides, and have been pretty quiet.

I would think coaches more closely resemble players, since they are employees and don't own any part of the team.

I wonder what their roles are in the lockout, and what their opinions may be, too. GMs too.

RE: How do coaches factor into the lockout?
The coaches are in that place called limbo. They don't take sides because they have to maintain long-term, positive relations with all parties to the disagreement. They don't have a money stake in the dispute beyond what they're currently losing in salary, which is a significant dollar amount but not enough to create financial hardship. In the meantime, they're doing what they'd normally do at this time of year - review last season and plan for the upcoming one on the assumption that it will play out in full. They're trying to grab a few days of vacation time here and there because the usual pre- and post-camp vacation periods are up in the air.

I don't think that is accurate.

yeah i've done some reading, that's not necessarily accurate, but one thing i figured out, like every other part of this stupid war the players/owners are having, it's confusing as hell....LOL

They did the draft war room from inside the facility and they've been working as employees the entire time getting paid. Only the players are locked out. Think about it. You think they did the draft for free?

I wonder about you guys sometimes. LOL

that was my thoughts all along. i would have thought they'd get paid, until it gets to a point they're not doing anything, IE: when the normal time for TC gets here and there is no TC.

i mean i'd think theres only so much preparation they can do without having the players there.....although maybe Mularky has time to try to actually add a page 2 to his playbook now

Yep, then they must've made some types of improvements to the playbook, because most team coaches gave out new play books to players during the lockout lift.

I imagine there's always something to do. Coaches are probably watching film and scouting college players for next years draft already too.

Yep...I remember I wanted to be a coach and I was talking to my high school coach about it...he was like, even at a competitive high school level you probably get 2 weeks off all year, lol. I couldn't imagine the strain an NFL coach has to go through.
