I know people keep bringing up Musgrave but other than being backup to some legendeary QB's and being the QB Coach to Brunell how is he qualified or better than any candidate out there?

He is not but he has earned the right to a chance.

Just looking at his bio on Wiki there is some sharp criticism of him as an OC. I'm just wondering in general what prompted people to chose him specifically other than he is the assistant OC. As for earning the right, I coach 6yr old football and there are a couple of boys who try hard every day and as much as I want them to be starters they are going to get ran over due to lack of speed, size, or comprehension of the position.

Thats true, but the assumption is that he is pretty sold based of the premoting to assistant HC after a few teams intervied him for some Head coaching jobs last year.

I think he has earned a right to the interview, nothing more. I personally would rather bring in an OC who runs a system the HC thinks will work better for our QB.

Isn't it a bit tough to bring in someone new at this point? But I agree, it has got to get better....Is the fact our Head Coach is a defensive guy hurting us as well? I must admit, I do enjoy seeing the HC of other teams call the plays (yea, they have input from the sky box guys), but it does seem to indicate they are actually in charge of the offense. Has Coach Smith ever changed a play MM has called?

While I am a little disgusted with his play calling, it has no imagination as and as stated here and AFMB predictable as hell.I do think the OL is a limiting factor, and am willing to see where he goes from here. Cause this being year 3 the offense shouldn't be sputtering as badly as it has. It's a long season I would have loved to have seen practice this week, the coaches just need to adjust quicker rather than continuing to try imposing their will when something isn't working, ie running game,. We all know they can play better, but somebody needs to tell him the Falcons defense though improved isn't a defense that works with a conservative game plan.

If not he'll be someone's HC next year. I would hate to see him shine elsewhere.

i don't know if he'd make someone's HC next year, but i'd be willing to go so far to say he'd make OC somewhere for sure if we don't bump him up ourselves

Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: How bad do you hate Mularkeys play calling? And do you want him gone?
its kind of odd this reminds me of the days of Marty Schottenhiemer in KC. or as we called it Marty Ball.....we struggled at times but then we went to the playoffs at least every other year it seemed...kicked the crap out the raiders and donkeys for the most part...yet we still bitched and bitched....I dont know if Mularkey needs to go just yet and I think judging him on the Steeler game is kind of a tough test when I think the O line was far from what it usually is, Ryan was mr. 411 they way he locked onto receivers.....It wasnt good and I think coach Smith put alot of people on notice and coach Mularkey is probably on that list.

We need deeper personnel before I would call for MM's dismissal.

We needed 5 WRs to beat the Steelers and spread them out. Finn is a waste of a roster spot at this point and Jenkins was out. We basically played that game with 3 WRs and that's just not enough to back off an aggressive Steelers defense.

We could also use a pass catching RB out of the backfield that isn't so injury prone.

Blame for our offense goes around the board. Mularkey is partly to blame. The O-Line not run blocking is creating a lot of problems - obviously we cant run if we cant block, and when we cant run defenses can defend the pass easier, and they can blitz more and put more pressure on the QB. It's a chain reaction.
