RE: Great Game, Learned Alot
The pieces are in place with a hard-hitting nucleus of youth on D for us to be elite THIS YEAR.

I have a feeling we're on the verge of something great on D. It all starts this Sunday against one of our toughest opponents in their place. If our D keeps performing at this high a level against the Saints......oh boy......get ready......we're in for a hard hitting season!!

BIG GAME this week!! Time to lay the lumber to the fleur.

Season Ticket Holder Sec. 341 Row 1

It took all this time to have someone to post and understand what I'm talking about.

I mean it seriously, I think our boys can do it. They need help in the middle...meaning having two guys looking to play as though they are 2 gap is NEVER a good idea. I think that they are going to see this and fix it. You don't have to go FA, just work harder on being a presence in the middle.

They would have obviously scored on us every time they ran it because we can't defend it. Not sure why we didn't lose to both the Steelers & Cards by 100 points. Our defense apparently sux.

You should give BVG a call & let him know.

Sorry man. This doesn't make any sense and borders on showing immaturity. If you don't like what I say that may mean exactly what you don't want to hear.

I'm guessing its the Kool-Aid though.

Weight isn't everything. He's big but not a nosetackle type of guy.

Henry Thomas was a VERY good nosetackle and weighed 275lbs. Its not just in execution and/or size. Its a style of play.

All of our DT's are 2 gap players, NONE are nosetackles in style of play. You don't see it now, but you will. The same thing HAPPENED twice or else what happened? How does a formidable DL get gashed two weeks in a row? No anchor taking up more than one block.

Our DTs are two gap players? Do what?

We have two of probably the single most combination of 1 gap DTs in the entire league. Every DT Thomas Dimitroff has brought in, plus Jonathan Babineaux, have been one gap penetration DTs. Shoot the gap, disrupt the play, etc. Our scheme is ANYTHING but two gap style.

On both plays, they have gone to the right, but that's about the end of the comparison. A typical NT lines up next to the weakside DE, which would be Abraham, so that he will be isolated against the LT. Nothing about either of those runs suggests that a big NT would have been the solution. Both plays look like improper allignment and poor execution after the snap instead of a scheme issue. If it was a scheme/player issue, we would be getting peppered with runs around the 4-7 yard range constantly with the big runs. So far, we've been shutting them down on all but one play.

When it is an abberation like the OT run and Hightowers big run, it looks like something that can be fixed. When it is a pattern that carries over all game and during the season, it is a player/coach issue. Last year, we finished 10th against the run, and shut down the #1 rushing team in their house. More proof that those two runs were simply errors, rather than being outmatched.

DOH!!! My bad! One gap tackle...not sure why I said 2 gap because even the technique is three.

Thats what I meant.

I have a question though...how is it an abberation if it happened two weeks in a row?
You definately have to have at least ONE 2 gap DT in order to make the most of the 4-3.

Not going to count QB rushes for the following, even though they would make the stats look better.

Pittsburgh
Attempts - 29
Yards - 139
Average - 4.8
1 Touchdown

Arizona
Attempts - 13
Yards - 118
Average - 9.1
1 Touchdown

Total
Attempts - 42
Yards - 257
Avg - 6.1
2 Touchdowns

Looks horrible right? Now, let's take away the two big runs...

Attempts - 40
Yards - 127
Avg - 3.2
0 Touchdowns

That's downright brutal. Now, if we were giving up 4.0+ yards a carry and touchdowns without those explosive runs, I would say we have serious issues. We're not though, which let's me know that while the result is explosive runs, the problem is something that can be fixed quickly.

I totally agree with you. Now let me try this one more time because I think you are not understanding me. I believe that it can start looking far more like the run games without the deep gashes if we fix the DT's style of play. At least one guy will have to play more like 1 gap while in game for it to happen. I'm greedy! I want it!

That gash doesn't happen last week and we hold them the way that we had and I think we start marching the other way and the Falcons are 2-0

Ovie and Sam don't make mental mistakes and they may never have had the chance to make that run last week Sad
