You can always pick up "a" punter but not "the" punter. I also feel the need to express my extreme HATRED for Florida once again (actually any chance I get).

ditto.....lol - could have sworn we had this conversation beforeBig Grin

thanks for your response and analysis as always...what exactly do you propose as to getting Matt more weapons? i thought that is what I was doing with Randall Cobb and Kendall Hunter - maybe TD could grab a Sidney Rice or Steve Breaston in free agency - don't really see how we can do a lot better than Cobb/Hunter though in the draft for getting Matt weapons.......please elaborate your thoughts there - thanks...

The point wasn't really directed at your mock...more along the lines of priority placement with the 1st rounder. As you know, my first mock had Rudolph at #27...and as far as the pass catching weapons available at that slot, I think he's still the best option. But at the same time, with no OTA's and potentially TC, TE is a tough position to learn and adjust to at the NFL level.

That's why if I'm in the GM chair I'm looking to strengthen 2012/2013 draft position by not requiring additional picks in 2011 via trade down. But if we did go Houston, I can see the logic.

i know this is self-serving, but the more I look at this mock draft I made, the more I think its perfect for us....

I've often heard that Justin Houston has an inconsistent motor, and is very hot cold in that aspect.

That is a MAJOR factor TD looks for along the defensive line.

If we're taking a DE, then it going to be a guy with a very high motor with solid technique and will probably be a senior to boot.

well if you are going to say he has a hot/cold motor, then its like this:

hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, cold, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot

dude makes a lot of plays........

I'm about as big a UGA fan as they come & i've seen every game Houston has played in, but I honestly don't think he's the answer to our DE needs. He'll eventually be a 5-8 sack guy w/in a few years, but he isn't so good he can make an impact immediately or even as soon as next year.

Our defense was 22nd against the pass & we just released our NB & placed a tender on our best CB. CB has become our biggest need position IMO. I didn't use to think this, but we're thin as hell at this spot right now. I've moved Brandon Harris or Aaron Williams to the top of my mock. Especially after watching the combine, Harris looked as good or even better than Amukamara IMO. That kid is a freaking stud & there was an incredible difference between him & the rest of the folks in his group. And Williams is easily 1st round talent as well. Jimmy Smith won't pass the character filter, which is fine because I think Harris & Williams both looked way better than him.

I was against this for the longest time because I was certain we were going after a WR in the 1st, but other than Green & Jones, no other receivers are close to 1st round talent.

1. CB Brandon Harris or Aaron Williams
2. WR Leonard Hankerson
3. WR Randall Cobb
4. TE DJ Williams
5. RB DaMarco Murray or Jacquizz Rodgers or Da'Rell Scott
6. OLB KJ Wright or Doug Hogue or Dontay Moch

Beef,

I could live with Brandon Harris in the 1st - not Aaron Williams though. If we go that route, then DE is a "MUST" in free agency... There is no way in hell that DeMarco Murray lasts until 5th round and KJ Wright probably goes off the board in 3rd round so you have some major unrealistic things going on in your mock above. Also, Hankerson probably gone before our pick in 2nd round and Falcons would probably have to use #59 to get Cobb in 2nd round......your mock is unrealistic.

Love it. I'm a big Houston and Cobb fan. I think at minimum those two players would give us a great impact. I'm not up on all the later round players, but I think the balance at positions selected is great.

Actually I agree, dunno why I put Hankerson in there. I did this as I was walking out the door & left without looking back at it really. But I clearly made a mistake. If you look back at my most recent mock, it was 1. Harris, 2. Cobb, 3. DJ Williams, 4. Jacquizz Rodgers, 5. Jeremy Kerley, 6. Doug Hogue, which is much more realistic.

That said, I still think DE is something we take care of in FA & I think CB has become a much bigger priority than it was before we let B. Williams go.
