Fun Facts About Michael Lombardi
From 1992 to 1996, Michael Lombardi was responsible for all draft selections for the Cleveland Browns. He also managed the salary cap, personnel decisions at the college and pro level, and handled all contracts.
Let's look at how well he did... 1992 - 1st - Tommy Vardell - Bust 2nd - Patrick Rowe - Bust 3rd - Bill Johnson and Gerald Dixon - Busts 6th - Rico Smith and George Williams - Nothing 7th - Selwyn Jones - Bounced from team to team 1993 - 1st - Steve Everitt - Bust 2nd - Dan Footman - Bust 3rd - Mike Caldwell - Bust 5th - Herman Harvie - Nothing 6th - Rich McKenzie - Nothing 7th - Travis Hill - Nothing 1994 - 1st - Antonio Langham and Derrick Alexander - Busts 3rd - Romeo Brandison - Never even made the team 5th - Isacc Booth - Nothing 6th - Robert Strait - Nothing 7th - Andre Hewitt - Nothing 1995 - 1st - Craig Powell - Busts 3rd - Eric Zeier and Mike Fredrick - Busts 5th - Tau Pupau and Mike Miller - Nothing 7th - A.C. Tellison 1996 - The team moved and was inactive. Lombardi was gone. Simply put, he fucking sucked at talent evaluation. He was regularly everyone's bitch when it came to trades, would have been better off having a monkey throw darts at names on a wall when it came to drafting, and was a complete failure as a GM. But let's top this off with the best thing you probably don't know about Lombardi. From 1999 to 2007 he worked closely with Al Davis in player evaluation, as well as contracts. He was a big part of them drafting JaMarcus Russell. This jackass was actively working against the Raiders back when Art Shell was their coach... while he was still working with them. He would call reporters around the country and shit talk his own team, and was banned from their practice field because he would actively bad talk the team around other Raider organization members. His last move was to trade Randy Moss to the Patriots for a 4th round pick, and went out of his way to extensively let everyone know on a national level that Randy could no longer run. I've coughed up phlegm-jims that knew more about football than this blubbernaut. |

RE: Fun Facts About Michael Lombardi
Great stuff. We now know the exact cause of his beef with the Falcons: GM envy.

RE: Fun Facts About Michael Lombardi
great post!
Note to Admins: Would love to see a category for media resumes' like the one Radical made here... Sort of our own Wikiforum where Dilfer, Lombardi etc... are exposed for their real significance and/or contribution to the game. Would make a great reference library! |

RE: Fun Facts About Michael Lombardi
I wouldn't call Derrick Alexander a bust. He had 3 1000+ yard seasons, 3 9+ touchdown seasons, and is the Chiefs all time single season leader in receiving yards with 1,400. I wouldn't argue that he was anything spectacular, but with the 29th overall pick, I'll take that out of a receiver.
But outside of that, yes, Michael Lombardi is horrible. Actually, he's beyond horrible, he's fucking horrible. He makes Matt Millen look like Dimitroff. Can you actually imagine both Michael Lombardi AND Matt Millen both on NFL Network? Oh wait...
