I believe in 1st round you should get as close you can to a "sure thing". I know there is not a true sure thing but.......you don't want to look back on draft and say "yeah I took this guy but I really did not like <blank> about him"....

I really think the "value" and less likely busts will be the offensive linemen in the mid 20's - the Nate Solder, Derek Sherrod, Gabe Carimi, Anthony Castonzo type players. Solid...

You hit the nail on the head with "sure thing value" in regards to what our 1st round pick needs to be. And from analyzing dozens of mock draft boards, it's pretty clear that a DE is not going to come close to maximizing value at #27 & is certainly not close to a sure thing by any stretch.

And I'm not sure about Torrey Smith either. I'm still leaning towards the 4.3 guys with better hands than a guy who's 4.5 & ranked higher only because he has a lot of "all-purpose" yards which include KR's. We have a KR/PR guy (Weems) & 2 good backups (HD & Franks). I believe we want/need pure speed "receivers" only.

I'm pretty confident we see at least 1 of these guys, & very possibly 2 of them. Jerrel Jernigan, Titus Young, Vincent Brown, Jeremy Kerley, or even Ronald Johnson, all of which are 4.3 speed explosive YAC guys who can simply beat defenders deep.

Jenkins is already a possession receiver & there's also no guarantee that Finn won't still be there & he too is a possession receiver. As a result, I think we steer away from guys like Baldwin, Hankerson, & Pettis.

i was talking about the first 2 or 3 DE's. i'm thinking the only one's i've heard a lot about are Bowers, Kerrigan and Quinn, i don't know a lot about the rest of them. Of course everyone knows the draft is a crap shoot. lots of players have been 'projected' to be superstars only to bust.

so if several of those should be around for our pick, who do you see being there, and would we take a chance on him?

I wouldn't worry too much about where someone is slotted, because each and every year no one can figure out where one person is going to go compared to the next. What looks like a sure 1st rounder goes in the 5th one year, and the guy that seems like a 2nd or 3rd rounder at best ends up going in the 1st. Stick to just scouting the players and see if they fit us based on need and scheme. You'll end up over complicating things if you spend too much time worrying about who may or may not fall to us.

The only pick I like of this one is the TE pick. WR in first is retarded, we could get line help here and then attempt to get the guy I really really want in the 2nd by trading up, Titus Young from Boise.
