I realize that is a difficult transition but with the right coordinator, it can be done.
I'm just thinking John Abraham has played in a 3-4, Lawrence Sidbury would probably be better in a 3-4 - the problem is I don't know that any of our D-Linemen would be good in a 3-4. Sean Weatherspoon and Curtis Lofton would both be excellent 3-4 ILBs. Just throwin' it out there. If we are gonna make changes, might as well consider all avenues. |

Abe left the Jets because of the 3-4, and Mike Smith is a 4-3 guy who worked with BVG because they came from the same defensive background. I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Mike Nolan & Romeo are the best ones for that. if those two are not available it's really not worth it when Spags & Mel Tucker are the next best options. JMO

JMO Romeo already has been given the Chiefs head job, so he's out. I'd say my picks would be Spags, Nolan, then Tucker. The Man In Black

I just want an aggressive, hard-nosed, bad ass, crazy genius, doesn't take shit from any offense type of defensive coordinator. No more soft zone pussy shit. Let's see some exotic blitz calls. Let's see some more man coverage. Knock the offenses teeth in on every play.
Invest in the trenches with high draft picks and we will see both sides of the ball vastly improve.

Hell I'd be happy just to have a defensive coordinator who doesn't have a porn stache.

Nah, I hate the 3-4. Multi yes, 3-4 no.

No, we still don;'t have the players for it. I remember vividly when Wade was here running the 3-4 and we did not have the players for it. Very painful some of those defenses were.

RE: with DC gone, is now a good time to consider switch to 3-4 defense?
100% yes. I've been tooting this horn for 2 years now.
Let Abraham walk. Move Corey Peters and Babineaux to the two DE spots, and find yourself a space-eating NT and another MLB to play alongside Lofton. Weatherspoon and Biermann coming off the edge and play M2M on the outside. The 3-4 defense is easier to draft for and easier to quickly turn around defensive production. Green Bay went from 22 to 2 after their switch, and Houston went from 25 to 1 after theirs. Sacks are guaranteed to go up, and that means more opportunities for turnovers. Mike Smith has experience coaching within a 3-4 scheme, but the key to making it work is getting an expert of it, a guy that knows the defense in and out. |
