Falcons very high on
Troy wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan is visiting the Atlanta Falcons today, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

This is latest meeting between him and the NFC South club after coach Mike Smith, general manager Thomas Dimitroff, position coaches and personnel directors flew to the Troy campus on a private plane to attend a private workout for him.

They're believed to be extremely high on the slot receiver.

Jernigan visited the Cleveland Browns on Monday.

He has previously visited the Minnesota Vikings and the San Diego Chargers.

Regarded as the top slot wide receiver in the draft, Jernigan boosted his stock with fast times in the 40-yard dash at his campus Pro Day workout with a 4.38 clocking, according to an NFL scouting director.

That was an improvement from his 4.46 time at the NFL scouting combine. He also registered a 38-inch vertical leap.

Seventeen NFL teams attended the workout where Jernigan ran routes and caught punts, performing well in those drills.

Among the formal interviews Jernigan conducted at the combine: the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts and the Carolina Panthers.

Jernigan is a 5-foot-9, 190-pound three-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection and the league's all-time leader with 3,128 receiving yards, 262 receptions and 5,971 total yards.

I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . Don't take me seriously until year 2413 .

The more highlights I watch of Jernigan, the more I want to draft him. He fights for every yard.

Want to know about Jernigan? Look at Dexter McCluster.

This guy is Dexter McCluster with more fight! But I'm not sure I'd take him in the first. Well, maybe, it depends a lot on who all is available.

i don't know if its just me, but honestly i don't see why we're needing a "slot" guy. I'm sorry but watching McCluster here in KC is fine and all but i want some tall #2 that can catch opposite of Roddy. Maybe i'm in the small percentage, but thats just me.

It's not just you. I feel that way too. But at the same time, I don't think Harry Douglas is going to develop much more. (And I like Douglas as much as the next person). I often wish to myself that Leonard Hankerson magically some how falls to our 2nd round pick this year. Maybe, just maybe, he will continue to be under-appreciated. Then we would have a real #2 receiver! Big Grin

It's not just you, slot reciever shouldn't even be on the table. Towards the end of last season, Douglas and Ryan finally started to hook up. I'am telling ya that Douglas has a great burst of speed after the catch, they just need to get thier timming down better.
