What did he do with that QB? Gabbert sucks but that was pure dysfunction. We hire Koetter and Mike Smith is Mark Richt hiring mike Bobo. I will lose all faith in him.

Yea... But their strength was running the ball (no weapons on the outside) .... MJD Lead the league in rushing yards...lol

Besides that, since he was the Coordinator for 5 seasons, I am guessing the guy had some input to what players they brought in.

Only because they gave him the ball way too much.

This dude's job was to coach them up. He didn't do it.

I mean....the Falcons are considering hiring a coordinator that just got demoted......by the OC that we all wanted fired.

That is just messed up.

how did he not? MJD was the best back in the NFL with an unstable O-line. Gabbert was arguably the worst starting QB in the NFL, and the Jags receiving core was brutal. Marcedes Lewis, their only consistent target, started off the season absolutely terrible. I'm not saying he's my first choice as an OC, but from what I've heard from him, I guess I'm one of the few who would not be upset if we hired him. In fact, I would be rather optimistic on how he could do with some major weapons that he never had the privilege of having in Jacksonville.

Gotta interview the worst to be confident with the best hire.

I agree, I read that Q & A with him and it seems that he has a great deal of knowledge and a flair for the passing game. But the best QB in Jax over the past 7 years was Byron Leftwich so not like they were gonna go vertical down there. He believes in the vertical offense and the issue in Jax was there was never anything close to the personnel to run it. I also could see a parallel with Smith and Van Gorder in that Del Rio probably wouldn't have let Koetter run the vertical offense even if he did have the personnel the same way Smith supposedly wanted the bend but don't break D. So that's my take, he's been a coach for 30 years I don't think he's a dumbass. And TD and Smitty know they need results so they won't hire him or anyone else unless there 100% sure it'll work. And again, I want continuity regardless of the hire and I don't see him leaving in 2 years, plus if he gets along with the rest of the staff even better, we don't need a Mike Martz Lovie Smith power struggle on gamedays. That'll be worse than anything Mularkey ever did. Koetter's not my first choice, but he's not a dried dog turd either, I'm looking at you Bratkowski.

I agree with this to some extent, although in addition to this, we are not going to interview just Koetter and say yes your hired. I think Clements may be our clear number one, it says a lot that we are going after a guy who. May not be available for us to interview until February. We aren't looking for just any jim'll fix it. For my 2 cents. Koetter makes me nervous, that offense in Jacksonville always seemed to work around the short game and run game. I could be wrong but he is really going to have to come with it.

Further to this, I wonder if there is anyone else we have interviewed already or any one who is in college we have interviewed or will. Reason being we are good at keeping info down. News of Julio trade only surfaced just before the draft. We met with the kid and all sorts and none of that got reported on. Stuff like that encourages me to see past the reporters and remember much else can be going on as we won't always be straight with the media.
