Falcons anxious to get Meier in offense

RE: Falcons anxious to get Meier in offense
Three things need to happen for our offense to be significantly better:

1. We must force defenses to spread out away from the LoS AND sideline-to-sideline.
2. We must have the personnel who can allow #1 to happen on a very consistent basis.
3. MM must call the plays that allow #1 to happen.

Jenkins is simply a piece to the puzzle. I hate this whole #2, #3, #4 stuff. It's all situational. Every pass play has a receiver progression & it doesn't always start with Roddy as target #1. And I think Jenkins will be better in 4-5 receiver sets when we do have weapons who can help spread out defenses too. Just as I think Roddy will be even better & so will our running game. It all works together as long as we have numbers #2 & #3.

Right now we're simply missing

I agree 100%... We have to have a play maker oppisite Roddy that can stretch the field. The way it stands right now, if Matt can't get some balls downfield he will loose respect. Jenkins is a good reciever, but no one fears him down field.

I don't see how Matt completed the passes he did complete. Very little time to throw.

Radical, do you believe our OL and QB are good enough to warrant a Desean Jacskon type of player at #2?
How will a speed guy be better than Jenkins with the current offense we have?

I know you're not asking me, but due to the issues you mention (inconsistent deep ball by the QB, little time by the OL) I think we need a different type of deep receiver.

We need a Vincent Jackson/Plaxico Burress type. They're just as effective as the D Jacksons, but they work far better with our style of offense. You don't have to wait until they're open to throw it, you put some air on it away from the defender and rely on them to make a play on the ball. That's what we need at 2 receiver.

A D Jackson type is far better for a QB who creates time (letting him get ridiculously open on a double move), or else in 4 WR sets taking a short pass and going long.

If we had a Plaxico in his prime (a guy who only ran a 4.55), defenses would have to play us completely differently, play Roddy and Tony straight up, and couldn't compress the field. If they did double Roddy, Tony, and compress the field, you just put it up in the air 40 yards for your 6'5 guy to grab. A few of those, and the D shifts. Since we run 2 WR sets often...that guy is pretty important for this offense to have.

Basically, and it's been said a few times, we need to be explosive in the passing game like San Diego (with big guys) instead of like Philly (with quick guys).
Edit: Sydney Rice could also fill that role.
