what's everyone's thoughts on moving Baker to RG? Hawley hasn't done that badly, BUT i think we can upgrade that as well, and he is in line to take McClure's spot. I personally like that he's getting playing time at guard beside TM, i think it's a good thing for his future at center. and isn't Baker known better for run blocking? just a thought, i think it could work

Here

PFW Whispers
Quote:• The Falcons demoted ORG Garrett Reynolds after their bye in Week Eight, replacing him in the starting lineup with Joe Hawley, but we hear the Falcons have not given up on Reynolds. Hawley filled in at center when Todd McClure missed time early this season, and Hawley is the heir apparent to McClure, who will be a free agent after the season. Reynolds beat out Mike Johnson for the starting job at right guard in training camp and another battle between the two could play out next year if McClure doesn't return.

Baker may compete with them for that RG position.

i wonder how much competition it was really in training camp with johnson getting that concussion so soon. i still think he has tremendous potential as well

Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: Will Svitek
I really expected Svitek to struggle today with JA. He exceeded my expectations and it should be obvious he is the starter for the remainder of the season.

As for Baker, I don't really care if they let him compete for another position on the line. I'll be fine if he's just a backup until the season ends.

I agree

Back to the topic... Its funny that we picked on Baker for having short arms and Svitek who is playing good has the same length or a little short arm length.

I saw something during the 05 draft that said Svitek arms measured in at 32" ... Baker measured in at 32 3/4"

1) he's already at least 30(Dahl and Clabo both were in their mid-late 20s)

and 2) I would see that position being upgraded regardless.

LT is still a position that, in theory, "good" doesn't cut it. You can have a good RG or a good RT, but you always strive to have a great LT. The next opportunity to get(FA)/groom(draft) a great LT should be taken advantage of.

I agree.

RE: Will Svitek
I think that Svitek has earned the starting position for the rest of this season. By the end of this year, we should all have a good idea of what he can do for us. Based on what I have seen so far, I think that he can be a good LT for us for the next six years.

Baker is another story. I think that his problems are centered around his injuries. When healthy, he has performed well (rookie season). Some players are injury-prone, and Baker is one of them. I can't see us keeping Baker (and his present contract) beyond this season. If he renegotiates, TD may decide to keep him.

RE: Will Svitek
I have no problem with Svitek being our LT if he plays at the same level the rest of the season. If we can shore up RG, we'll be a very good offense.

True. A player's age is not as relevant as his mileage. Similarly, Turner isn't as old as his age might indicate. JA55 will last longer in rotation than his age might indicate.
