RE: Why I feel we can't succeed in this "new" NFL
I just get tired of the conservatism and vanilla play after we go up. We have no killer instinct and opposing teams know that. We've let too many teams back into games because of the lack of the killer instinct.
We score 14. Yippee! Right? Wrong! You're facing the freaking high powered Packers and 14 points is nothing to them. I liked what Mularkey was throwing at them in the first half but he went back to being good ole Mularkey after that. The playcalling became predictable and vanilla and we lost because of that. The offense took their feet off the gas and we went into conservative mode. You just can't do that when you're facing the Packers. Rodgers can make any defense look bad and he WILL score points on you no matter what. So you better keep coming on offense and defense because games vs the Packers will be high scoring shootouts and more times than not, 14 points ain't gonna cut it unless you have the 2000 Ravens defense. I'm just tired of this team lacking the "foot on the throat" mentality. Every time we go up in a game early, I don't feel good about it because I KNOW for a fact that we're going to go conservative later on offense and defense and let the opposing QB look like a star. And then BOOM, the other team is back in the game and THAT is when we go back to the winning mentality and we play to win at THAT point. Hence the many 4th quarter comebacks. We don't play to win after we go up by 14 points or so. We play not to lose. We put our foot on the gas like a senior citizen would. If that whole mentality doesn't change, we are not going ANYWHERE. Don't even think Super Bowl with that sorry ass, loser mentality. Trust me on that. And if the blame is going to go someone, blame the coaches for the conservatism and predictability after we get a double digit lead. Invest in the trenches with high draft picks and we will see both sides of the ball vastly improve.
