RE: What will TD do with the OL?
yea.. I see us signing a LT in FA and drafting a Guard in the 3rd or 5th round to compete with Mike Johnson and Andrew Jackson.
I happen to agree with TD... I dont think our whole line sucked (each player) ... As a unit they sucked... With a LT and a good RG... i think we would have the pieces ![]()

RE: What will TD do with the OL?
Our Offensive Line SUCKS. Period.
We have no LT. We have a dinosaur of a Center. We have no true RG. And Clabo is a liability at RT - we overpaid for him and his guaranteed Penalties per game. This group cant out-muscle anybody, they play slow and stupid. Blalock is the only quality Lineman we have. McClure is too small and too old keep manning the Center position. These other guys arent very good. We need more BEEF on the O Line. Losing Dahl destroyed this Line. |

PFF has Clabo as one of the best RT in the league (grade wise) ... I will say this about Dahl... He did wayyyyy better then i thought he would out of our system... He also looked good at RT also. ![]()

That shows how much Reynolds was far away from average... I think Dahl is replacable... The problem was Reynolds is not the guy and Hawley is best at center in the long run ![]()

He MAY work into a starting role (Clabo did), but he is not now a starting quality tackle. He's too tall and doesn't get his pad level low enough to play guard, so the d-linemen have an easy time getting leverage on him. He should never play another snap at guard. Ever. Johnson may be the guy, but we don't know and IMHO can't really afford to wait to find out. I think RG is the single weakest spot on the line. I'd rather get 1 guard and stay with Svitek than get a RT and stand pat at guard. But ideally if we upgrade both positions we're in much better shape next year. In reality, upgrade those two and the line is fixed regardless of whether McClure or Hawley is playing C. |

RE: What will TD do with the OL?
Dahl was an experienced guard....that is about it. He was mediocre, at his best. He is still mediocre in St Louis. Of course, he and Clabo knew each other very well and learned to play in tandem. The same sort of symbiosis needs to be developed with our new RG. Clabo is a good RT. I am not worried about him.
TD's plan was for Johnson to assume the RG position. Johnson was struggling to distinguish himself from Reynolds in camp and the competition was over after the concussion. I am very concerned that Johnson simply is not good enough to start. Many OL's take several seasons to reach their peak (see Clabo, McClure and Dahl). Only time will tell. The question is whether TD feels confident about his young OL's. The real shame, in all of this, is the career arch that Baker has taken. Baker's rookie season was a pleasant surprise. His abilities and attitude were heralded as ideal. There was a time that some fans viewed him as a future pro bowler! Today, I hear nothing good about him. His talent and work ethic are questioned. Hell, fans want him out ASAP. What is the behind-the-scenes story on this guy? How can a promising young talent from a football family go so wrong? Is he irrepairably injured? Has he gotten involved with drugs? He grew that stupid looking beard and seemed to disconnect from his profession. What the hell has happened to Baker? |

RE: What will TD do with the OL?
As weird and cryptic about injuries as TD and Smith are, the handling of Johnson still threw me for a total loop. Dude got a (from what we know) single concussion in training camp, then went on IR? WTF? I thought he was the future of our line when we drafted him, but I'm not as sure now.

Invest in the trenches with high draft picks and we will see both sides of the ball vastly improve.
