RE: We really do need a strong and full draft this year.
We were really close this year.
We don't need to empty the roster or make major changes. We lost the championship game not because we couldn't play D or move the ball on offense. We lost because we couldn't do those things when we needed to. Had Ryan not fumbled we would have at least gotten a FG and all we would have needed was one more to win the game. Had Turner not gotten hurt we would have done a better job of eating the clock up. You can't judge our performance in the playoffs as the success or failure for our season. Seattle and SF were two of the top defenses during the regular season. We put up a ton of points and yards on both of them. We beat Seattle because we scored on our last position. We lost to SF because we didn't. It is very hard to get instant impact players at certain positions such as DE. I think we would be better off drafting a DE and signing someone like Freeney. We only need him for a year or two. If he is healthy and he gets 8-10 sacks that is better than Matthews, Biermann, Sidbury, Massaquoi, and Edwards combined. That gives one more year for Mass and Matthews to get better. We have a lot of vets over 30. We need to start finding their heirs or we are could be looking at doing it all at once in the future. Once we win that championship a lot of those guys can go. This is going to be an exciting season. |
