Not really. It does involve the Saints winning out and a couple of other teams losing out, but at 8-8 the Saints would hold tiebreakers over the rest of the teams in the hunt. They would have head-to-head tiebreakers over Tampa Bay and Dallas and a better NFC record over the others. Don't forget that two of the Saints losses cam to AFC squads.

I'm not saying it is likely at all, but it is still possible.
