People make predictions just like you did all the time, and they seem so obvious, but more times than not it's just a flip of the coin. It's just more complicated when you're on the inside than being outside looking in, as it is with most things in life. |

Look at Swift, dude said that Dez Bryant was going to have a better year than Julio Jones and that Vernon Gholston was going to be a monster. |

RE: WAR ROOM
Since there is some confusion here let me say that when a guy says something like, "He doesn't fit our scheme." I already have issues with that type of thinking.
Jerry, a guy I watched a lot, had injury problems quite a bit. Why draft him in the first round passing over a guy who would actually make a difference? If Matthews didn't fit the scheme then who does? Does Edwards fit? Robinson? Baker? How about Reynalds? Here is the point that is being made. Jerry had bust written all over him and up until that move I actually liked TD. After that one came Middleton who played how many snaps? This is what I'm saying, simple stuff...Jbo will tell you that while I whine about it a little more than I should I do put forth the effort to know what I'm saying before I speak out during the offseason and when it goes left I say what I'm going to say about it. If it works out (the only example so far is Ryan) I eat crow and shut up about it...forever. |

RE: WAR ROOM
What I am not doing, nor will I do is say that its an easy job...it isn't neither is scouting and I know that for a FACT...what I am saying is when he said that a guy who had the makings of a future Pro Bowler didn't fit the scheme it annoyed the heck out of me. AND on top of that it let me know that he's a "Cherry Picker" and doesn't go with BPA. Cherry Picker GM's tend to make far more mistakes than BPA selectors.
In that I mean if you have a Franchise QB, you do not pick QB if he is BPA. You move on to the other 21 position plus ST's and see BPA. The BPA would actually have been Vontae Davis, however, the filter causes a certain type of cherry picking already. Then I suppose because of size or whatever the heck, Matthews didn't fit as a SLB...go over him. Move on. No need for Hakeem Nicks, we already have White and Jenkins. So now we have either Woods or Jerry (slightly higher at that time than Hood) so since McClure was still the man, we went Jerry. Picked over a black dot, a guy who didn't fit the scheme, and an unnecessary wide out for a guy who was 25yrs old and was still ailing with knee problems. A lot of other guys I wanted weren't flashy and have mediocre careers (higher picks 3-7) but they are in the same range as TD's picks. As a man I like him. (TD), I'm not a fan of his philosophy or the scheme that we have in place. I don't like "run stopping" DE's, having two UT's playing DT (I hate the word undertackle...its a spot not a football position), not getting LB's who can pass rush and are playmakers because they have a DE look. We had a guy like that before who helped us to the SB. (was originally a 3-4 OLB). I do not like press and man CB's playing a zone scheme...but then certain LB's don't fit the scheme...but all CB's do... That's what I'm talking about...many things didn't make sense on a football level to a football guy... |

Poor wording(just woke up from a nap, not that it matters), and I've read your last two posts, but will not reply to them at the moment. What I mean is that it's not fair to say it was obvious that Jerry was a future bust and Matthews was a future Pro Bowler, simply because we hear that every year from so many people, and that people on the outside simply don't have as much to go on as GMs around the league. Even then, it's never a science. Guys who are considered football geniuses, changers of the game, have drafted multiple busts. You hear every year about guys that are "sure-things" who don't even last in the league 3 years, or end up as journey-man/bench warmers for their careers. You may have called it, but people on the outside are just making shots in the dark as much as the next guy, and it's more up to chance than people probably want to admit. This is why I don't bother with trying to predict who's going to succeed or fail in the NFL, but rather just try to figure out who we will most likely draft. |

It wasn't in trying to be fair or unfair. Could care less about fairness and I did say that I KNOW FOR A FACT that its not an easy job. What I am saying is while I may like him as a person...I hate his philosophies. He's growing on me a bit with the Julio move, but for the most part I don't like his style overall. |

Could care less about fairness and I did say that I KNOW FOR A FACT that its not an easy job. its all a process...hes built a team that's going to the playoffs for the 2nd time in a row, led by a QB who doesn't know what an NFL losing season feels like...to get at this point, you have to have a extremely strong foundation built on virtues and..."style"...that rings through the organization from top to bottom. After the Julio move, I'm not so sure we don't start seeing pick ups from people we can mold into our style or maneuver our style to give them a place to shine. But to get to this point, you'd need an identity to deter from. Otherwise, you're just a lost organization. |
