Falcons Understanding the Big Nickle

RE: Understanding the Big Nickle
I also feel that Ikola could be a great selection for us. My other favourite for that role is Tru Johnson. He already plays that role at Montana you see him at different spots in the secondary. Including blitzing off the edge or from the nickel.

A player I feel could be a good commodity in the big nickel is Taylor Mays. Big Physical guy with speed. I remember there was talk, and only talk in mock drafts of us getting him to use as a fast cover LB/S hybrid.

Mays is a dumb as shit headcase with a me me me attitude problem. He LOOKS the part, but doesn't play the part. So no thanks.

I picture us drafting a taller safety to play that inside nickle spot. Grimes is our best coverage guy and even he couldn't defend Graham.

Markelle Martin out of OK St. is 6'1 210 and runs a 4.4, and he'll probably be there at 55. Harrison Smith out of Notre Dame is 6'2 215 and runs a 4.5 and should be there around 55 too. After that, there's Trumaine Johnson out of Montana who's 6'2 205 and runs 4.6, but has good cover skills and will definately be there at 85.

Then the guy I like is George Iloka out of Boise St. who's 6'4 225, runs a 4.6 and can tackle, cover, and even rush the passer. This guy is basically a fast LB who can cover. He would be perfect for the big nickle. And there's even a very good chance he's still there at 85, so we could even take an OL with our 55th.

Good points Beef.

There is an internet rumor that we are courting Madieu Williams. Perhaps he is the third safety we need to run the big nickel.

RE: Understanding the Big Nickle
Madieu Williams could have been something special if not for injuries. He had an incredible 2008 season so the Bungles signed him to a big multi-year contract and then he gets injured and misses 2009. He came back in 2010 and nearly had a probowl season but they released him because of his huge cap-hit. The 49'ers picked him up for some unknown reason and unfortunately the guy got stuck behind Golston, who's probably the best safety in the league right now, so Williams simply didn't play.

I'm not surprised we're trying to snag him. He's 30 years old now, unfortunately, but he's still got a lot of fuel in the tank. He would be a great pickup for us. I wouldn't be surprised if he won the starting position at FS over DeCoud and we used DeCoud in that nickle spot.

That would be ideal.

I'm tired of picking people up that is injury prone. It's getting old.

RE: Understanding the Big Nickle
Well, Madieu Williams is heading to the Redskins. Apparently they have more cap room and offered him a good bit more than us.

RE: Understanding the Big Nickle
We likely offered back up money. And the Redskins offered low level starter type money seeing as the list Landry

RE: Understanding the Big Nickle
Despite his injury concerns, I wish we would have give out and got Laron Landry. He want that expensive I don't think. Hes big enough yup play linebackerbut agile enough to play safety.
