I hope Weatherspoons injury isn't worse than what they are leading us to believe. He's missed 3 in a row now.

Offseason should be interesting. Lots of big time OL are expected to hit the market.

McClain is the next best thing in the backfield. Guy is just a player. He just steps in and gets work done.

I don't think that Konz will slide to center even when McClure is gone or sat on the bench. I think the coaching staff likes Konz more at guard than at Center. Perhaps we could see the Falcons go after a center.

Our D looked good despite the two big runs. 178 total yards 1 turnover 3 sacks and a TD.

RE: Totaly sucking today
Hawley stepped into Center when McClure went down instead of sliding Konz to C and putting in another Guard (or even Hawley at G which they did last year). I guess they are comfortable with Konz at G for now.
The interior of our O Line is straight trash. So much of the pressure comes right up the gut and kills our running game or forces Matt to pass quickly. Until we get that straightened out, we will see more of the same. |

RE: Totaly sucking today
It has been an issue for awhile but this offseason we need to draft or sign several huge fat olinemen and dlinemen. Seriously 320lbs or more. We need to stop this finesse crap on our lines. A RB and 6 fat giant linemen that should be our draft

RE: Totaly sucking today
I wish we would have gotten to see what Hawley could do but he only got 1 play before they let McClure back in. It was stupid. Also the Falcons drafted Konz as a guard.
I think there could be some good things to come out of the this game. According to the boxscore it says Rodgers only got 5 carries but it seemed like more than that. It seemed like he was in the backfield a lot during the game and our running game looked better when he was back there than it did with Turner. Also good to see the Falcons be able to punch it in the end zone from the 1 yard line with Turner. Also Turner showed on a couple of runs that he can still run mad when he wants to. But he doesn't seem to always want to. Also Rodgers and HD got used in the passing game a lot today which was good. They each had 6 targets. ![]()

RE: Totaly sucking today
Konz is the best backup guard we currently have, so it's understandable they are subbing Hawley for McClure when needed right now.
But I still really believe that Konz is the future center and we will either draft more guards or get an elite one in FA. I really HOPE Konz becomes the center as well. The cohesiveness and stability of the line begins and ends with the center. When McClure gets pushed back into Matt, the pocket essentially closes from the inside out. It's worse than if an OT gets pushed back, actually. If an OT side collapses, the QB can still step up into the pocket. If the center collapses, the QB has nowhere to go but backwards or roll out to a side and shorten the field by half while throwing on the run. And run blocking in the middle of our line is HORRIBLE. And again, a lot of that has to do with McClure. If his man is not pushed back and occupied, his defender has access to left or right to make a play or help contribute to it by closing either hole. If we're running inside tackles, the center has the most important job. The guards can't push their defender towards the center if the NT is still standing there. We should all want Konz to be the center so we have a real pass and run blocker handling the most important job on the line. If the center does his job, everyone else on the line has an easier job. |
