Falcons: The safety that magically was taken away

Bad penalties can totally change the complexion of a game. Say the refs actually call one of the many Holding calls on Abraham and Brees doesn't convert on a few third downs. It can dictate how both sides play the rest of the game.

The thing that ticks me off is how one-sided it was. When the saints jumped and the Falcons thought they were going to have a free play. Everyone on both sides of the ball thought it was going to be a penalty and no call. That and the Safety were the worst i saw in a while.

I won't blame the refs for the loss but we don't stand a chance if we have to compete against the Saints and the refs again in 2 weeks. People need to call attention to this so that we at least get a level playing field.

If we are talking about this, a point I'd like to make, is why were Flags thrown on us so late. It's as though the refs last night would flag us if a play was successful to take it away. Are refs supposed to hold on throwing the flag now until the play develops? Does it depend on the type of infraction?

we can bitch whine and moan all we want, but the fact remains that they shoved their giant saints dick up our ass and our team took it like they loved it. if you wanna blame someone blame the team. The refs made some bad calls, but our team made themselves into punk bitches.

TBH the Saints DBs GOT THEIR WAY EARLY on the huge 3rd down passes and it was never called, when we would get close to the redzone and on 3rd down Matt has a guy that has run a comeback or slant for the first down throws it and our reciever gets hit well before the ball gets there, and its a fucking no call.

One of the most subjective posters i've ever seen on my life at Walter Football, said this is probably the worst officiated game he has seen in the last 20 years.

I have to hope the NFL rescinds the "pity the poor widdle Aints over Katrina" memo to the refs to force them to give blatantly favorable calls their way at some point. There is no way anyone who watches the Aints play does not walk away from the game in disbelief over how biased the refs are in their favor.

Excepting the Aints fans, of course, who think there is nothing wrong with it.

I thought the refs were doing a pretty bad job of covering their intentions all night by anytime Atlanta got moving on offense, a borderline "hold" or "hands to the face" penalty would stall us out. Conversely, anytime we actually made a stop on defense the drive would be prolonged by a equally borderline call vs our defense. I figured the league wanted the record to be broken in front of the entire nation rather than in front of a regional audience the next week - I figured this so much that I told my impartial brother (Chiefs fan) to pay close attention to the officiating before the kickoff. (He'd seen enough to declare the officiating "complete bullshit" and quit watching midway through the 4th qtr.)

But on the holding penalty in the end zone that probably would have ended New Orleans night offensively and made the nation wait for Brees to break the record next week, I'll say this: I've played 10 years of football, and watched 30+ years of it and I cannot ever remember seeing a holding penalty flag picked up on a play that was so obviously holding that even an honest Saints fan would admit that it was clear and blatant holding. The pick up of the flag and the comical "explanation" from the official was a major tip of the hand of someone in the league's intentions if you ask me.

I know the Saints have become a popular team, but honestly they don't need this kind of help from the officials because like it or not, they are a talented team. Be that as it may, I was pretty appalled at the officiating last night and firmly believe they disturbed the integrity of the game for a feel good story in front of a national audience and that bothers me worse than the outcome of the game.

Oh and the horseshit "holding" call against Rogers that would have extended our drive before half time and probably eliminated the Saints from touching the ball again before the half completely changed the complexion of the game.

It is becoming clear that the only shot the Falcons have of winning a playoff game is to play against someone other than the Saints. The NFL has instructed all game officials to fix any game involving the Saints. It is known as the Katrina Clause.

Last year the league did the same thing for the Packers. Seriously, I feel there is a very real conspiracy to keep the Falcons out of the national limelight. I suppose it could be the lingering affects of the Vick Saga, but you would hope the league would let that go. But, not likely as the Katrina Clause is slated to be in affect for another seven years following this season. When the NFL fixes things they fix them right.
