Look I'm a Grimes fan. I too went to a small state school in PA and I pull for him, but signing CBs to big money contracts rarely works out. Today's winning teams have unknown cheap Corners who can play well enough in the zone schemes.

I think the the guy to look out for is Darin Walls. He is big 6' 190. We all saw flashes in his limited action his year. He might fit what Nolan is looking for. Is he great? No but he doesn't have to be.

I would rather spend the money on a great LT and open up that offense. I think the best players for our needs on D are already in house Sidbury at DE and Walls and Franks at CB.

I actually agree with a lot of your rationale... except Sidbury. Sidbury? Really?

I mean maybe he is the future great DE we've hoped for, but how can you even mention him when there is virtually zero reference that he's either decent, good, great, or total garbage? We haven't REALLY come close to seeing him play. And after being on the team for 3 seasons now, why is that?

My gut feeling is we re-sign Lofton, let Grimes go, offer lowball Abraham, draft a CB in the 3rd round to platoon with Dunta/Owens/Franks/Walls, and finally go after a really big name DE in FA. Like a Mario Williams. And I think it's also possible we go after a FS like Goldson or Griffin as well.

If we do that though, our DT's REALLY need to step it up and get some real freaking pressure for a change. Because we're not going to have the money to do anything else other than maybe this, especially if we're also addressing OL in FA.

Our DT's have sucked for the last 4 years. Some of them had flashes, but never were consistent.
I bet that is where we spend some money.

Notice that Grimes said he expects to play. Basically the only info we have is that Grimes was told to sit out for the Tampa Bay game leading up the Giants game. Question... Did Mike Smith ever say Grimes was active for the Giants game and ready to go?

Brent Grimes is a goner, no doubt about it. TD dropped the ball big time on this one by not signing him in 2010 the way the Packers did with Tramon Williams.

there's no way grimes wasn't going to test the free-agent market, hopefully we can match the home town discount. if not i really enjoyed grimes efforts on the field, the spectacular plays he made, taking over games etc.

Yeah I don't believe that at all. I don't believe if the Falcons had offered Brent Grimes a 6 year 35 mil contract with 18 mil guaranteed and 10 mil up front that he would have said, "Nah, I am going to play the next two years for 3 mil and see how it goes".

I just can't see it. Tramon Williams didn't say no, although he got a little bigger contract than that.
