There is some reason for hope that the new coordinators are ready to step up to the modern game of football. The most obvious is that TD seems to have already embraced the preferred personnel packages of Mike Nolan which seem more in tune with the challenge of defensing the Saints.

I agree TD talking about that 3 CB one safety set sounds right for the times. Ensures at least 4 guys willbe rushing the passer and depending on the offense's formation personnel and the down and distance on the field we could see as many as 6 rushing.

RE: Team Captains....
ok, just so everyone knows, i DO like that we don't hear much about our players in the papers, other than the sports sections after the games. and i am in NO MEANS suggesting we should start taking the Dez's of the world.

BUT

to take a projected 6th round LT, when there was a much higher graded prospect on the board, simply because the higher graded guy smoked some weed. i mean geesh.....ok, not the smartest thing to smoke weed within a certain time frame of when you're gonna be tested, but then again it's not the smartest thing in the world to drive around with expired tags, late at night, with dark tinted windows, with someone who has drugs on them and get yourself pulled over either.

and yet, Babs is still on the team, and still one of our best players. The comments i heard from mayok after pittsburgh took mike adams, was 'he made sure that pittsburgh's FO knew he had learned from his mistake'.

So TD would rather take someone who has a history of injuries (go back through the years he's been here) who might not ever really be fully 'WELL" instead of taking a chance that our coaches and other players can mentor a guy and help him mature and realize what great chances he's got for the rest of his life?

sorry, i'm just at a place where i love the winning seasons, but i am ready to see that go the next step and mean things like, the team who dominated winning in the regular season didn't just get dominated and embarrassed in their playoff game

Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: Team Captains....
When players get caught doing something they aren't supposed to do, it shows a sign of disrespect and the lack of caring. It also shows they can't follow the rules. We don't need that crap on our team. Drama doesn't win games.

I agree it's hard to understand. But I wouldn't conclude that because we didn't pick him it's because of the drugs. Draft projections are not always perfect. NFL networks analyst and draft projectors in the Internet they have limited tape. They don't get to watch guys up close or work them out. They aren't employed to do it the way actual FO execs are.

If TD is saying the guy can compete for a starting position this year, don't you think he believes that and that his team got the guy they wanted where they were. Corey Peters is an example of this. Right now who has the better career him or Gerald McCoy. Him or Alualu.

This...I dislike how there is an assumption for the reason we don't choose a player. We pick players based on scheme fits too. Its not just about character. Its funny how many folks have not learned from the Corey Peters of the world. Of course all his picks don't workout, who picks does?

I don't understand how hard it is to just wait and see. What happens if Holmes becomes a probowler and Adams is out of the league in 4 years? Just never know. And just bc a guy says he has learned that doesn't mean shit.

100% behind TD and the picks... however you can't have all chiefs... too many alpha males and no one to follow them?

RE: Team Captains....
LMAO well apparently i stirred some stuff up here huh. I'll say this, these guys are now players on the team i support to the best of my ability. i will pull for them to succeed. no doubt about it.

no one hits 100% on their picks, true. also true, Holmes could turn out to be the best in the league for years to come and adams could be out of the league next year, who knows.....these are true statements. we could go on and on about this high draft bust and this UDFA that made the probowl almost every year of his career. thing is no one knows at all. maybe him saying he 'learned his lesson' don't mean anything, maybe it does.....

i'm just at a point with this years draft, with exception of Konz and ewing, totally UNDERWHELMED. you don't like it, i don't care. but i'll gladly accept being wrong it if turns out that way if we win the SB this year

RE: Team Captains....
I think your position is fair and we are allowed to feel how we want. It's just that every year there are players projected to go higher and they go lower and vice versa. That is because most of the pre draft hype and projections are done by folks who aren't attached to an FO. They may evaluate a persons stand alone talent and they might be a great talent. But when you are inside a Franchise looking at your roster and the direction you want to go in does that person fit.

You also have issues with The likes of Adams where perhaps he was on our radar until the drugs thing. And I can see why we don't want him. Not because I think he is a bad person for touchin a lil Mary Jane, heck I burn the herb when I can. But not when my job is on the line or people are relying on me. We are in a 4 year whole at LT thanks to Yosemite Sam, dude has completely flopped. This is the highest LT we have drafted since him. Because he is expected to be a replacement. Not depth not a stop gap. This guy is supposed to be the person who is the future at LT for us for the remainder of Ryan's tenure here and possibly to break in a new Rookie Qb too. You need someone you can trust to be around and not let the team down as he is in a critical position. I can understand why you want a blue collar type guy at LT. A protector needs to be unselfish.

Now Adams may grow into that type of guy but we needed that type of guy now. Holmes is that type of player. I think Pat Hill could have had Adams if we wanted him. If he was ever on our radar in actual truth. Holmes might have been diagnosed as our guy early on. With the fact that we had no 1st and guys like Adams were not supposed to get to us I think our FO had to be more astute in their back of the draft analysis. They need to make sure that at least 3 starters or significant players come from this class. I think we got 4.

I agree with you Konz and Ewing are 1 and 2 in that respect. I think Holmes is likely our Corey, not that appealing straight off the board, but within a year or 2 we'll be understanding why the FO took him. He is a strange type of guy, he had his place in college coming out of high school, but he went to the JuCo first to get some peace and perspective it seems. He is advising his younger brother to do similar. The 4th is Massaquoi. I think he is a project to an extent, but remember how folks said Pierre Paul was a fluke in college, I think he has a similar stock, thankfully he is with someone who will find a way to maximise that potential at the professional level. Through training, development and the part he is asked to play in the scheme.

I wouldn't be so confident if we were dealing with vangorder and PB here. I'd think we would be lucky to get Konz and Ewing developed if they were. And Massaquoi would be lost in depth for a few years. thankfully due to the presence of hill and Nolan and Danna, we gave guys who have a history of developing obvious and obscure talent at the NFL level. I think Holmes and Massaquoi are clay to be moulded, but they are already ready to be that way due to their nature and personality. The coaches don't have to work on grinding the stupid out of them 1st.

I wish I could be out there to see camp/preseason. I may just pay the direct debit to get as much info as I can on NFL network. I hope you will be able to enjoy the build up to the season pap, and be pleased with the new product the Falcons put on the field.

RE: Team Captains....
I'm gonna bring my laptop and work from the field. No, the draft wasn't exciting. It was a typical draft, which we needed cuz last year we bet the farm on Jones.

The most interesting battle will be were we need it to be, oline.

You haven't stirred up anything man. I'm just telling you what I dislike just like u r. My point is that projections are just that but we are dealing with 32 different mindsets, playbooks, and schemes and within each of the 32 teams we have about 10+ people putting input in about this player and that with ultimately 4 of those 10 making the final decision. The projections of these websites or Mel Kiper or whomever are they personally see it as and is not the consensus of every team.

This is why I hate "we could have gotten this player and that player later on" because nobody ever knows how the Seahawks may project this player or the 49ers, etc.

The general consensus may be he's a 6th round player but all you need is 1 team to think otherwise and jump ahead. If you want him go get him...that's how I see it.

I remember how everybody was cursing the hell out of Jeff Fisher for taking Chris Johnson in the 1st round when he was projected 3rd or 4th round. A 2000 yard season later and its never spoken of again.

I say this because I think it's pointless to feel underwhelmed based on another persons projections. I could understand if these projections were your own personal one but all youre doing is reading what another person wrote and TD is depending on his own research. I'm not trying to be offensive in anyway btw...jmo
