How is this ever petersons job to lose.

It's Dent's job to lose it clearly has been from They got TaTupu for insurance against a lack of progression / readiness from Dent, from the moment Lofton wasn't resigned. And Pete wasn't resigned either. I think dent is going to be more than fine for our Defense. I actually think he is a better player than Lofton but we've been spoiled with Lofton as he came in and did so well as a 2nd round rookie. People seem to think it can't happen again. With a guy like Dent and the way he applies and prepares himself. I think we'll be pleasantly supplied as lightning strikes twice for us with our drafted MLBs

The thing is, Lofton was a SOLID run defender. When on the field he alone could pretty much prevent any long runs. This was/is his best attribute. Dent has to prove himself. He was great in college, but that doesn't always equal greatness in the pros. The thing we lost is a great run defender and an average pass protector. If Dent can even show good run defense, then we really won't be missing much.

Brooking is not coming back and there aren't any Yellow Jacket linebackers available... the Bulldog will do fine.

As for his college stats, that's great. I'm a Bulldog fan. I watch the actual games. And no point did I watch Dent and think "boy this guy is going to be a steal as a starter in the NFL" unlike I might add Thurman who I thought would be. And he was until his own idiocy ruined his career.

So you deny that Odell played very well in the NFL before his own stupidity cost him a career? His on the field play was very good in Cincy.

I was being sarcastic, insinuating that you really don't have a good eye for talent since you said you didn't see Dent wracking up 10+ tackles every game and understanding that that's pretty freaking incredible.

He's in the best most competitive NFL caliber conference in college football and ranked 2nd in the entire conference in tackles per game and 4th overall in total tackles, and you claim he's nothing special. 126 tackles in 12 games and you're just like, blah the guy is average. Say what??

On top of that, you said he was too small even though he's bigger than Lofton and as big or bigger than the top 3 LB's in the NFL. Clearly you didn't do your research.

I don't think you watched Dent at all, to be honest. You don't know shit about him it sounds like.

The only person looking silly is you. I like how you claim I said all these things that I never did. How does thinking someone isn't good enough to be a starter at the NFL level translate to thinking they are average at the college level? I never said he was average or "nothing special". I said when I watched him in college I didn't think of him as a potential NFL starter.

I actually still stand by that statement since he has only played special teams for us since he was drafted. The only reason he's even sniffing the starting unit now is from the salary cap decision to let Lofton walk and then the injury to a guy who didn't even play in the NFL last year.

And as I clarified about his size he doesn't play to it. He plays small so that does make him small for the position. I don't care that he got 126 tackles in 12 games *in college*. I watched him there and he never stood out or impressed me with his hitting ability, tackling at the solo level or playmaking decision. He also had a hard time getting off blocks or fighting through them as well and that was at the college level.

So yes, consider me not convinced that the Falcons all this time had the next great Jessie Tuggle stashed on a depth chart. I hope he becomes exactly that but we'll have to let the games speak for themselves.
