Why would it be hard to believe that Blank would fire Smith if we lost that playoff game ? Tony Dungy was fired from Bucs and he brought his team to playoffs 4 out of 6 seasons
only to be fired after playoff record . Following season they go on to win a Super Bowl with a new head coach John Gruden . Smith would have just been a scape goat for the roster Dimtroff has put together . He would have also been used as the scape goat for Ryan play in the post season . Not much Smith can do he is a good football coach . He did panic in late stages of playoff game which makes me worried that pressure was building but hopefully getting monkey off our back we see a more loose football team come Sunday .

Simply because it goes against everything that Blank has said and all the evidence points to him not operating like that. He has even referenced publicly this exact issue taking about the mistake made by the Smiths under similar circumstances when they fired Leeman Bennett. So for him to do that would be completely out of character and make him a liar. From everything I know about Blank, including personal conversations, he has more than earned my respect and the benefit of the doubt. Simply put, I take the man at his word and have never seen anything at all that would make me think otherwise. Jerry Jones might do it as well as some other owners but not Blank.

I love Blank but he has some oddities . I would have not put it past him to fire Smith

None of those things would call into question his integrity, firing Smith would have. That's the number one reason and its reason enough.

Great point, I'm sure that the guys that rely on the goodwill of the organization for access to players and information aren't biased at all. These are the same guys that stayed tight lipped about BVG and MM for 4 years because they didn't want to irk the organization.

I don't know what Blank would do, but I imagine if he thought he would have to replace Smith after going 0-4 he would have had the FO do their due diligence beforehand and search for a suitable replacement and TD isn't the only one that would be in on such a search. Maybe it came from TD or one of his minions, or someone that was close to Blank, or from a magic 8 ball IDK. DP didn't disclose the source and I wouldn't have expected him to. Information leaks are not unheard of, even with the Falcons as tight lipped as they are.

Blank has talked about following the model of the Patriots and Steelers. In that having consistency at the top of the organization is a key focal point in having consistency on the field.
