TD on Grimes contract situation

Dimitroff on Grimes contract talks: "we feel like we can come to a good conclusion to this negotiation."

Quote:Falcons not “wasting any time” in contract talks with Brent Grimes

The Falcons want to keep free agent cornerback Brent Grimes. To do so, they will have to invest a lot of money at the cornerback position with Dunta Robinson already getting paid a big salary.

Speaking at the Scouting Combine Friday, Dimitroff sounded optimistic that the team could retain Grimes.

“Those are difficult discussions to have because they are high dollar discussions,” Dimitroff said to a group of reporters after his press conference. B”rent Grimes is a fine football player and we’d like to have him back. We have begun our negotions with his representatives.

“Ben Dogra and Tom Condon are obviously accomplished agents. We’re not wasting any time with our discussions. We feel like we can come to a good conclusion to this negotiation.”

We guessed last week that Grimes would ultimately get the franchise tag. Dimitroff recognized that the franchise tag is a consideration.

Its going to be funny to see all the ppl that has killed Grimes and his ppl if/when we resign him... They will love the guy again

RE: TD on Grimes contract situation
I want to keep Grimes, I love Grimes, but I also don't want to see us paying 75 million over the next 4 seasons to 2 players at the same position. That would just be stupid.

Thats the thing.. I dont see that happening.. If Robinson does not shine in Mike Nolans system... We could cut him and gain around 5+ mil of cap space in 2013 and 2014

If we could get Grimes to a 7-8 mil a year for 4 year .. I think that would be an good investment

I think 32 million won't do it for Grimes, he's going to want a contract similar to Robinson's. Cortland Finnegan is better, and he'll probably get around 50 million. Although it's nice wishful thinking, I don't think Grimes is going to take any type of discount in order to stay with Atlanta. I'd love to have him back, but if not...see ya.

RE: TD on Grimes contract situation
I just really don't see how Grimes can ask for what Robinson gets, nor can I see how the Falcons can look at him with a straight face and tell him he's not worth it. I think he prices himself out of contention. I think best bet has to be franchising him, cutting Dunta after this upcoming season and giving Grimes a contract then.

i'll pull for him as long as he's a Falcon whether i like him or not. i know PFF has him rated last year at number 2 behind Revis, but i also know i saw him miss some plays/ints that over the last few years i'd become used to seeing him make. i don't care a lot about stats when i see, with my own eyes, missed INT's that we've become accustomed to seeing him make.

i say let him take his crazy wife and go scream somewhere else for all that money. we don't need to overpay for him, abe or lofton IN MY OPINION

Chew on THAT, Petunia!

Yes, specifically last year. He was better than Asomugha too but I'd still take Nnamdi 8 days a week and twice on Sunday. Finnegan was a first team all pro selection not very long ago and is a year younger than Brent. Give me Finnegan for the same price or a little more.
