RE: Short yardage solutions
I don't know how to fix the running game other than getting a faster RB and getting an OL that can open holes.
We might be able to stick with this OL if we just had a faster RB, however. Matt hikes the ball and some of the time the OL actually gets some initial push and for a brief moment opens holes. But Turner just isn't to the line yet. The holes close and Turner is too big to fit through whatever is left without banging off someone and losing momentum. And Snelling is NOT the answer. Snelling is no faster than Turner and he's also a pretty stout guy. He has nearly the same problem as Turner. And I love Quizz's shiftiness and he's freaking awesome in open space making defenders miss, but he's also pretty damn slow. I do think that he's our best alternative right now, though. He should get more touches and 3-down sets. The only other thing I can think of right now, is give Antoine Smith a shot. That dude is lightning fast. He did really well in pre-season and then nothing. Not a single game snap other than ST since. Just give him a damn shot at it for fuck sakes. If he sucks, then we'll find out. But Turner is hurting us right now. He's a huge liability and we're losing because of him, period. |
