The 3 tight end sets has NEVER worked for the Falcons when it comes to the running game. The using the extra offensive lineman in the running game has NEVER worked for the Falcons when it comes to the running game. Not this year, not any year. Why do we continue to try to force it?

Oh and the Falcons aren't the only team with this problem. I saw a stat earlier this season that the Jets actually had negative yards rushing when using 6 offensive linemen.

Ha you know this reminds me of the packers Super Bowl year. Struggled to run all the way up until playoffs then they got it going. I can only hope we get the same turn around. 7 games left I think now is the time for our coaching staff to start getting the team ready to get hot. You want a good run. I tell you what though you want the defense to start picking up its play offensively the pass game is over coming the lack of the ground game. But defensively they need to start tightening up the noose.

The OLine simply isn't coming around in the run game. Short yardage just makes it even more difficult for them. The clear choice would be to have the OLine start run blocking like NFL Lineman are supposed to, not let running lanes collapse immediately, and not get pushed off the point of attack nearly every single rushing play. Its pretty obvious they are still struggling to do it.

I am with Peyton here; no back sets with the opportunity for Matt to step up in the pocket and run for a couple yards. We have seen him become much better this year when it comes to sliding up in the pocket. Usually he throws the ball while sliding up towards the line of scrimmage. Using that same principle, I think he could simply run for a couple and move the chains, if need be. Having no back sets (along with the appropriate drag routs and short curls at the sticks) would give Matt an option if a defender was right in his face when stepping towards the line of scrimmage.

I am not a coach and even I see many different scenarios where this type of short yardage plan could fail. However, what we are doing now, trying to force OLinemen who aren't run blocking well to open holes in crucial situations (3rd/4th and must haves) has really started to bite us on the ass.
