I don't prefer seeing check downs when getting the first looks bleak. It would be great to take the chance just so we can keep the defense honest if anything. They already protect short to medium passes against us. Last year was the worst about that. Forcing the safeties to respect the deep ball will improve our running game as well. Draws with Quizz may end up being a thing of beauty.

I clearly see opponents respect our deep ball this year.

I agree with your first paragraph. The deep passes should be done in the are around our own 40 and beyond.

Deep passes on 1st and 2nd... awesome.
Deep passes on 3rd and 4th... expected, and better defended.

Throw early and get the advantage. We do this (see JJ last week).
Throw late and get abused.

It's simple, really. Read my other, more in depth posts (regarding blitz and coverage). Throwing it up, hoping a covered wr makes a play, or that we luck into PI, while praying it doesn't get picked off and housed will NEVER be the best call to make. May work once, but try it often, and you will get burned repeatedly.

There is a reason DE's love passing downs. When they know you have to pass it long, they pin their ears back and house the QB. This kills the momentum.

Reading issues:
1. Yea I never said you were talking about throwing it up 15 times.

2. I wasn't referencing the Saints game actually. I gave a scenario. Also it wasn't a 40 yard pass in that game if we were on the 29 and they ended up at the 19.

3. I have been saying the whole time that it is based on field position. Field position determines if that shot should be taken or not. In reference to the GIANTS game that has been mentioned multiple times, the throw shouldn't be made. That is the play thag got the whole convo started.

4. You seem to be invested as much as I am, but I have yet to get as riled up as you have. So maybe you should ask yourself....

"I don't understand why you're fighting this so hard. The Falcons get into 3rd and 20 about 1 time every other game. So you're talking about 8 fucking deep passes in a season. Not 15 in a game like you said before. So I really don't understand why you're fighting this thought so hard ..."

You said it wasn't a good idea to do it in the Giants game. I gave the example that we did the EXACT same thing in the Saints game and everyone on here PRAISED it and we actually had worst field position. So what's the difference? How can it be good against the Saints and then bad against the Giants? Please tell me what the difference is.

I dont remember that play or its approval but give me a moment to take a look at the play, score, timing of the call, quarter, etc.

It is funny though that it happened in a game we lost.

Dude it was 3rd and 10 and we were down 21-17 in the beginning of the 3rd quarter.

It was kind of like a "hope we catch them off guard play" because generally we are known to go for the 10 or 11 yards to get the 1st down but instead we threw a 53 yard pass or so to Drew Davis.

If you think that's a similar situation to the Gaints situation with 3RD AND 20, then we don't need to debate this any further.

Julio was out. He would have made that catch probably in stride and turned the tide in the game. Davis didn't have the experience to make the play. It was costly in that it killed what little momentum we had at the time.

Again. I don't understand why you have such a problem with throwing deep on 3rd and 20 in hopes of getting a first down. But yeah. We don't need to carry this any further. At least I'm not the only one on here that doesn't see anything wrong with throwing it deep on 3rd and 20.

Oh yea I know. I liked that play against the Saints. I was just explaining the difference between going for it on that 3rd down as opposed to the 3rd down in the Giants game. They were VASTLY different situations.

One game, we are winning, against a team that has not shown a high-powered offense that day.
One game, we are behind, against a team that has shown a high-powered offense that day.

Those two things don't seem different to you?
