We took a game where we had a huge lead and then stopped playing offense and then had to bite our nails and hang on at the end. I'm fucking sick of the Falcons doing this shit all the time. I thought this was shit was over with when we got rid of Mularkey. But I guess I was wrong. We had like 4 passes the entire 4th quarter. That's just damn stupid. To be fair, in terms of scheme, we were up by 20 points at the start of the 4th quarter. There is no reason at all why we should have to throw the ball and risk interceptions. We don't have to be a run first team, but we should be able to run the ball when we need to run the ball, and we couldn't. I believe that will get sorted out -- I think it's scheme as much as execution for the most part (though I believe if Konz were starting, our run game would improve, perhaps to the detriment of the pass game). But until it does, we have a bit of a problem. Running the ball eats clock, moves the chains and allows you to finish games without risking 3 and outs or turnovers or whatever. Philly is masterful at doing this. That's essentially what we are trying to do, but we can't because we can't run the ball at all. If we ever get to the point where we can at least run 1 of 3 downs and get actual yardage, y'all will be loving this gameplan. Until then, we'll either have to bite our nails or hope Koetter changes the scheme. |

RE: Running The Ball
Overreact much? We started 2 drives basically in our own endzone. They won that battle. If you can pin an offense that close to the goalline and stop their run, then you almost ensure a punt.
Our O had a hard time all day. The Denver D is for real.

He once won a game down 35-14 with less than 5 minutes left. A 20 point lead is not safe when he's on the field. Also once it got to 27-13 we should have went back to being aggressive on offense. Not that we were ever that aggressive last night. I love the offense against the Chiefs. Last night the offense looked like Mularkey ball 2.0. I hated it. Where were the screen passes at? Where were the deep passes at? ![]()

We tried a couple of screens, but they were pretty well blown up behind the line. Gotta give Denver credit for their coverage of Julio, he never seemed to be able to do a thing last night. RE: Running The Ball
I can't believe people are still bitching because we try to run the ball. If you watched the game you know that the run blocking still looks like shit, just like it did in KC. We won the damn game and there are people whining because we didn't pass it 60 times, and lose, like the Saints. The running game is what makes a lot of our passes work. It doesn't matter who is in the backfield if there is nowhere to go with the football.
I can understand being curious as to why our run blocking sucks, I had some serious questions about it after last week and still have them after this week, but questioning running the football at all? Come on man... |

And running the ball couldn't have had that much affect on the passing game because Ryan only average 6.1 yards per attempt and we didn't attempt anything deep. Running the ball is suppose to open up the passing game but that didn't happen. So why keep trying to do it and keep having 3 and outs? ![]()

RE: Running The Ball
Are you silly? If you don't think that play action passing helps anything except the deep ball, our conversation here is done. You completely ignore the fact that we were playing with a lead the entire game, backed up on multiple drives, etc. I can't talk to someone with that little understanding of why running the football is important.....
That is what teams do with a lead in the NFL. This isn't college, teams don't air it out an entire game against inferior opponents. |
