We took a game where we had a huge lead and then stopped playing offense and then had to bite our nails and hang on at the end. I'm fucking sick of the Falcons doing this shit all the time. I thought this was shit was over with when we got rid of Mularkey. But I guess I was wrong. We had like 4 passes the entire 4th quarter. That's just damn stupid. To be fair, in terms of scheme, we were up by 20 points at the start of the 4th quarter. There is no reason at all why we should have to throw the ball and risk interceptions. We don't have to be a run first team, but we should be able to run the ball when we need to run the ball, and we couldn't. I believe that will get sorted out -- I think it's scheme as much as execution for the most part (though I believe if Konz were starting, our run game would improve, perhaps to the detriment of the pass game). But until it does, we have a bit of a problem. Running the ball eats clock, moves the chains and allows you to finish games without risking 3 and outs or turnovers or whatever. Philly is masterful at doing this. That's essentially what we are trying to do, but we can't because we can't run the ball at all. If we ever get to the point where we can at least run 1 of 3 downs and get actual yardage, y'all will be loving this gameplan. Until then, we'll either have to bite our nails or hope Koetter changes the scheme. |
