Running Game
Yesterday was the first time I have seen the Lions play this season and all I have ever seen is "the Lions can't run the ball, ect, ect, ect." Well they may not have a traditional run game but they seemed to run the ball pretty well out of a shotgun spread set. They are a passing team that uses the pass to set up and at least get something out of their running game and it works pretty well. They know they can't just line up in an I-formation and run the ball and have success so they don't waste plays by trying to do that. I wish the Falcons would get the clue that they can't run the ball from an I-formation set and stop wasting downs doing that. Do what the Lions are doing to generate a running game. Spread the field and open up running lanes. That means using Jacquizz in the running game instead of Turner.

RE: Running Game
Opening up running lanes is something we seem to not be able to do.
Your asking for too much

RE: Running Game
Today the Falcons had 24 rushes for 79 yards and 2 touchdowns. That's a 3.3 ypc average. That doesn't look very good on the surface. But when you see that Rodgers got 49 yards on only 10 carries (4.9) and Turner had only 17 yards on 13 carries (1.3) you realize how much better our running game can be when Rodgers gets touches. Also Rodgers is a threat in the passing game. The offense just looks so much better when Rodgers in back there.

RE: Running Game
Rodgers in protection is a liability. He gets pushed back at the point of attack very often. I like the way the offense looks with Quizz but am concerned that his size, when it comes to pass protection, could bite us on the ass at the worst time.

RE: Running Game
i disagree he has stepped up and take on some big guys coming in... he does enough to preserve Matt. I would like another strong back with explosive skils like quizz in there as another back But i love what the guy does.

I could not friggin believe when we lined up with Turner behind a FB on 2nd and 1 and then later on 3rd and 1. He got tackled for negative yardage both times and it was 1000% predictable. They need to take that play out of the book. Everyone in the universe knows what's coming. And you can't do play action on it with only 2 receivers on 4 DB's. Can Smith and Keotter drop the loyalty blinders and see that Turner is a liability? Everyone knows what's coming when he's in and he's totally useless as a receiver. He has no moves in open space. Even his checkdowns end up being short and stopped at the spot he catches it. The moritorium has come. |

RE: Running Game
Great teams get a yard even when the other side KNOWS what is going to happen.

I didn't say he was bad at pass protection, just that his size could cause us problems at bad times (playoffs). I would love to see him as our starter, as long as Koetter and Pat Hill work out some better schemes so he is not forced to take on guys twice his size, one on one. I agree that we do need a more explosive big back to share the workload. Turner is not the future for us, everyone knows that. Snelling is servicable and gives us the option of waiting to sign/draft the back we all know we need. |

RE: Running Game
Turner has been able to make not one but two game winning runs in the last two weeks. That's impressive considering he couldn't pull it off in NO. In fact if the only successful runs he gets over the rest of the year are game winning TD's I'll be happy.
