Roster/Depth Chart
OFFENSE:
QB: Ryan | Redman | JPW | Froman(ps) RB: Turner | Snelling | Johnson | Smith(ps) HB: Quizz FB: Ovie TE: Gonzo | Palmer | Peelle FL: Roddy | Meier | Strickland(ps) SL: HD | Weems SE: Julio | Harvey(ps) LT: Baker | Valdez LG: Blalock | Johnson C: McClure | Hawley RG: Reynolds | Jackson RT: Clabo | Svitek ================================== DEFENSE: LDE: Edwards | Sidbury | Matthews(ps) LDT: Peters | Jerry RDT: Babineaux | Walker RDE: Abraham | Biermann | Davis WLB: Nicholas | Peterson | Adkins MLB: Lofton | Wire | Dent SLB: Spoon | James | Woods(ps) LCB: Robinson | Walls(ps) NB: Owens | Franks RCB: Grimes SS: Moore | Bush S: DeCoud | Schillinger | Priest(ps) ================================== SPECIAL TEAMS: K: Bryant | Bosher P: Bosher LS: Zelenka ================================== Other Notables: (2 spots left on PS) QB: Adam Froman - Slim chance, but could challenge TE: Ryan Winterswyk - Was really good at Boise, has a chance to knock off Peelle. LS: Andrew Schulze - might take 34 yr old Zelenka's spot C: Paul Fenaroli - Really good size UDFA center that has a chance for PS OG: Matt Murphy - Many thought he would be drafted, has a chance for PS DT: Kiante Tripp - Good DT, could knock off Lewis SS: Matt Hansen - Has the size and speed, we're not deep here so has a chance. ================================= Guys I think will be released/won't make it: C: Rob Bruggeman - I think he's done his 3 year max on PS DE: Chauncey Davis - not worth the money anymore DE: Emmanuel Stephens - no room anymore WR: Tim Buckley - no room anymore ================================= Now I think there's a chance we also let Peelle go if Winterswyk turns out good. Winterswyk has the ability to play DE as well, so might be a good addition to ST's. And losing Peelle would save some money. Trey Lewis has a chance of being replaced by Tripp as well, especially if we need the cap space next year and Tripp looks good on ST. Snelling we just don't know yet. If he comes back, Smith will probably be on the PS again. Reports from TC are that Strickland is tearing it up and looking great too. He might actually bypass Harvey for that final WR spot, especially since Weems is technically a ST guy and if HD is playing well, Weems likely won't see any time except ST, so hard to even place him in the receiver category at this point. Strickland is the only other true flanker besides Roddy. Valdez is no longer eligible for the PS, so he's either on the 53 or gone. We're a little thin on OL depth and he's looked good at TC so I'm thinking he stays. The LB spot is tricky. I don't think we keep 3 3rd string guys. Adkins, Wire, and Woods... one of those guys is likely gone. Probably whoever costs the most or is the worst on ST because that's all they will ever see time at. The Darrin Walls kid is my choice for the last CB spot IF... IF we don't get another CB in FA. If we do, then he may make the PS. The kid is 6'0 195 and runs a 4.35-4.40. He's raw as hell though and needs a couple years coaching up, but he's a great athlete and TD/Smitty really like those smart college graduate team co-captain types. |

Owens at nickel scares the Graziani out of me.

Me too, but Smitty himself has said Owens and Franks are battling for the nickel spot and they are still high on both of them. Owens ended 09 with 3 interceptions in the last 3 games and half the people on the forums were saying Owens was going to start in front of Grimes. I think the GB playoff game was just a fluke. He had been standing on the sidelines nearly all season watching B. Williams and I just don't think he was prepared to play on that big of a stage with virtually no game experience at the position. He's a good CB though. Very instintive, works hard, and has heart. I think if he practices for fulltime nickel and gets the starting job, he'll have the confidence to play it well. That said, we still need another CB no matter what. I don't see us going into the season with only 4 and a UDFA rookie as a backup. |

RE: Roster/Depth Chart
I know there were some rule changes this year but starting 13 guys on offense that might cause a penalty or two.

Those are positions dude. Is the FB always in? Is the SL always in? Is the HB always in? Is the NB always in? Come on man. |

RE: Roster/Depth Chart
I think ultimately the Falcons will have 5 CBs on the active roster, although I can't imagine right now where that 5th guy will come from. I just think it will happen.
I am pretty sure Adkins isn't eligible for the PS. He's gonna get cut or he may stick if the Falcons decide that he is all that on ST. I haven't watched him close enough to know. |

I think you're right about Adkins too, but the roster on the official site said he was going into his 3rd year and I didn't feel like checking to make sure that was right or wrong. I thought he already did his 3 year max on the PS, but maybe not. And I also agree about CB, I can't imagine we go with just the 4 we know and one of the UDFA rookies. That would be quite disconcerting. |

In the past decade, you'll be hard pressed to find a guy who got beat as badly as Owens did in those two games. The sheer catches, yards, and key penalties are just ridiculous. In the Bengals game alone he was thrown at 20 times, giving up 17 catches for 169 yards and 2 TDs. That's just brutal. |
