If I had a "Big-Board" that listed the prospects that realistically could still be there at 30, Bernard would be at the very top of it. Bernard is ranked between 26 and 36 on the 4 or 5 different Big-Boards I usually check. He's perfect for us in every way shape and form. Him and Quizz in our backfield would be a dream IMO.

As to the rest of your post, I actually agree that trading back for additional picks would be great for us, but I'm still afraid that by doing that we're taking a bigger risk of getting mediocre talent. And we're already stacked with mediocre talent.

It's time to get elite talent again, but on the defensive side, IMO.

Either pull a Julio and move up for the likes of Moore, Hankins, or Richardson, or go for a Bernard or Okafor/Montgomery, and pray we score gems in the 2nd and 3rd at DT and RB/DE depending on what we take at 30.

And to be honest, I don't think TE is near the priority most people think it is. I believe Smitty and Koetter believe we can supplement TG with a better running game and Coffman/Palmer/3rd or 4th round rookie (like Escobar/Fauria/Toilolo/Kelce).

Well here's my thing right.

What is the bigger need. Defensive End or Running Back.

If Bernard Okafor or Montgomery are still there at 30 who do we take because they won't be there at 60.

My feeling is we could get a good Runningback in the 2nd where we are but that Defensive ends will be more of a gamble.

If we brought in an FA end. I'd be all for going for Bernard first and taking an End in the second a tackle in the 3rd.

However I just see that number 1 pick being a defensive player. Especially if either Montgomery or Okafor is around.

I suppose an alternative which we could see as TD is aggressive when locked in on a player. Is

We draft Montgomery Bernard or Okafor out of who is there at 30. And perhaps we trade our 2nd this year and next year to Move higher up in 2nd to get at another player if we really want them.

If we have a 3rd round comp for Lofton. It's possible we could trade our original 3rd rounder and our second rounder to move up into the first 15 picks of round 2 and get an early contributor.

From your original reaction I can only discern that you feel Running back should be addressed with in the 1st or 2 based on Whois there. 1st especially if its Bernard or Lacy.

If Both were there at 30 who would you take. They both offer different benefits. Lacy seems to give you consistent yardage. But he isn't really a home run threat. Bernard the results are a little more variable but ultimately his versatility opens up the offense but also the field to him. The draft is some 10 11 weeks away this picture will clear.

I think we will be in a position to get an impact player at running back or Defensive End on day one of this draft.

Guys like Montgomery Okafor Hunt and others will be there at 30. There a lot ahead of them but they aren't the bottom feeders of their group or even mid tier guys. The value we will get at 30 picking defensive end will be high

On the other hand at Runningback. Bernard and Lacy appear to be the clear 1st round talents of this draft. Again at 30 I think we have a shot at both of them. I don't think anyone is taking them before 20 those teams all have other needs and the value isn't there in taking a back that high like it was with Richardson last season.

So at 20 onwards who could need a running back?

Chicago - No

Cincinnati - No (bigger needs)

St - Louis - possibly but they need a receiver more FA activity may dictate this

Minnesota - fuck no

Indianapolis - possibly but I think they will continue to run with Ballard and address more pressing needs

Seattle - No

Green Bay - I could see this happening. They have needed a run game for nearly 3 years now. I could see them wanting Lacy over Bernard. But I actually think Bernard fits better as does he with us.

Houston - No

Denver - No Mcgahee is there and Moreno bought himself some time.

New England - No

Atlanta - we will have our shot. I don't think anyone trades up over us from the top of the 2nd to take a running back. There are teams who may want to trade with us eg Detroit but they have pressing needs at multiple spots. Don't think the can afford to shave their picks.
