Post Game Press Conference
Did anyone hear his presser after the Steelers laid an egg at home against the sorry Chargers? "An unfortunate poor performance by us, and by that I mean all of us. We closed poorly today, we played poorly today and it's a shame given the opportunity we had in front of us today and we didn't get it done. We don't seek comfort, we accept responsibility. Hopefully we can make corrections and move forward because regardless of what happens in other stadiums, if we play like we did today it does not matter. We need to acknowledge that and I think we will. But today was a faiure."
But it more of the tone of his voice than what he said. He sounded pissed. You could tell he was pissed about the loss. Now if you listen to Smitty's presser it's the same "we just didn't execute today. But we'll get it corrected next time" Something along those lines and he almost seems like he's about to cry. I want my HC to be angry about a loss. Not be so disappointed that it sounds like he's about to cry. Mike Tomlin Press Conference Mike Smith Press Conference ![]()

RE: Post Game Press Conference
It's just their different styles. Tomlin would sound pissed thanking a supermodel for a surprise handjob after lunch. I've seen Smitty fired up on the sidelines, and I guarantee you behind closed doors he let the fire and brimstone show. Press conferences are traps, and you just try to escape without doing damage to your team.

Mike smith speaks hollow words. Same meaningless phrases over and over again. Wish he would talk about how he didn't have the team prepared or how he was out coached.

RE: Post Game Press Conference
Seriously sometimes you guys clutch at the most ridiculous straws. All for what. Mike Smith is the same win or lose. He criticizes the team even in victory and isnt going to throw it all under the bus when we lose. You saw the guy chew out players for making mistakes on the sidelines and equally so show them real encouragment warming when they get it right. Can't be like that all the time and come on the man has managed his team to the second best record over 5 years. I keep saying if you guys read the war room and the energy bus, you'd understand a lot about the philosophy that steers our organisation at present.
If you think Smith is pissed not pissed at losing then you're being stupid. But he knows damnly well that he can't go tearing into his 11-2 team in public and that he'll deal with it in private. The falcons have a process of bringing up the players in a game who made costly mistakes or decisions and they stand up front so that they have to confront their mistakes win or lose. That's the accountability that matters. To one another, not to the media and not the fans because they are not the ones who are getting them through these games. We're just piggy backing along for the ride. They are grateful, but what can we do for them that they cant do for themselves or one another. And you ca bet there have been times where smith Stands u in front of his team and takes ownership for his mistakes as do the rest of the coaching staff. |

I've been avoiding posting about this because I knew it was going to take some time to type it all up and I've been pretty busy. Fortunately you saved me the trouble and said it much better than I would have. This stuff always come up, I think I'll just start linking to the above post, great job. |

It's scary the similarities of both men. Both always carry a level tone in interviews after games, win or loss, both are ultra conservative and both have the great ability to be slow and steady through the season but then when the playoffs come they don't know how to change their game plan for the higher intensity and quicker pace of the playoffs. ![]()

Re: Post Game Press Conference
Did you not get what FullMetal was saying. Smith doesn't owe you or I or anyone in the media anything. His measured tone is a concious decision, its part of thier plan and it is not how he is behind closed doors.
Cox won a World championship and 5 NL titles, I'll take that kind of "failure" every time. |

RE: Post Game Press Conference
Ha... I seriously don't think Smitty is Ultra Conservative at all. Is he the balance to the crazier side of Thomas Dmitroff.... yes. Dmitroff isn't insane but he is somewhat unorthox, they act as a chek and balance on one another. You see the fire from Mike Smith if you know how to read people. the man might be quiet talking to you but you can sometimes see, win or lose there is a person who holds back. Because emotion might get you won win, but playing with your head gets you several. Im not surprised Caolina won. This was their superbowl as they said they had this game marked on their calendar. Did you see Greg Hardy on the sideline before the game with War paint accross his face. Did you see Steve Smith pacing the field like a horny Gorilla that had just been given a shot of Ciallis, these guys needed this game they had fury for the game. You can't play like that every week. it would be grat if you could but it causes injuries exhaustion and is only temporaty. I'll take our teams level headed execution with a dose of passion and desire right now, and leave it until the playoffs for them to play like there is no tomorrow. That's when you want to see the team be ready be willing to tear themselves apart when losing means there is nothing else but losing.
I personally have come to view football as 4 phase game season. preseason, its practice time, live practice, I never listen to most of the usual sound bytes at this time because people don't know what they are talkign about a lot of the time and are just too excited for there to be some football. The opening half of the season is the fun part its where you see who the stars are shaping up to be both as individuals and players. the second half of the regular season is the depth. Teams know who they are at this point and what they can do. Some try and work on their weaknesses to get more complete. Others home in on their strengths and attempt to Pearl Harbour the shit our of anyone with what works. Either way you need to find yourself. Post season, its go hard or go home, you can't be afraid you have to play with grounding to not make stupid mistakes but you have to play without fear. |

I was just saying it would make me personally feel better. And Cox didn't do jack the last 10 years he was with the Braves. He won his championship and got his 5 world series appearances in the 90s and then it was just like he and the Braves got complacent. Well Smitty seems complacent and we haven't even won a single playoff game. Nothing anyone says is going to make me feel good about what happened yesterday. It looked like a combination of the Packers/Giants playoff game. And guess what. We face the Giants on Sunday. I hope the Falcons don't get embarrassed again but there is nothing to make me think it won't happen again. This team is just too soft along the lines. That can't be fixed in season. That's something you fix with better players which happens during the off-season. Aside from keeping his own players in house TD did absolutely nothing to improve the OL or DL except draft Konz who looks horrible at RG. And I got blasted a few times this season but I'll say it again Justin Blalock has gotten worst every year he's been in the NFL. I don't know why. The only guy that has improved this season on the OL is Sam Baker. ![]()
