People are really going to bitch about this play-calling?
I mean...it's comical how bad the execution was, but somehow we still find ways to put the blame on Mularkey? Nevermind Ryan was over-throwing deep shots that were beautifully set up with the huge dose of runs we were giving them, or that Roddy was dropping easy catches...nevermind that Quizz was actually used as a change of pace, and did well, or that we came out the 2nd half passing, going deep might I add to put the game away...we still are going to blame the guy who calls people open deep, but not talk about the people who can't get the ball there.
and before anybody tries to call me a troll or whatever other drivel ya place on someone who doesn't believe in using a blind eye to the player's mistakes, I don't blame the close game on Ryan or Roddy. they didn't make plays when we needed them to, but I'm sure both will get that together. but hearing people complain about not throwing out of running formations, THEN come back and complain about throwing out of an I-formation with 2 wide receivers is making this place laughable in the objectivity department. |

RE: People are really going to bitch about this play-calling?
Oh, you mean the huge doses of Turner against 9+ defenders in the box, every, freaking, time?

RE: People are really going to bitch about this play-calling?
yeah, the huge dose that set up the deep shots because Thomas was creeping into the box. but I'm sure Turner's 2 TDs were just a mistake. or are you talking about the 2nd half where we were passing more than running before the game got close? help me out

RE: People are really going to bitch about this play-calling?
I thought the playcalling in the first half was brilliant, the second half was some of the worst we've seen this year. Seriously, Turner up the middle with like 9 in the box? C'mon.

RE: People are really going to bitch about this play-calling?
already said, but i too will say, first half was a work of brilliance like we haven't seen in a couple of years. second half was as bad as anything we've seen. so refresh my memory, were turners two TD's against nine in the box? ummm, no don't think so.
will agree with you on not connecting on the deep passes. we finally get someone who can actually get DOWN THERE to qualify a play as a deep pass and we miss on way more than we hit on. bad QB? nope, they just need some more work on timing are you only talking about offense, or are we allowed to bitch about that pathetic freaking 3-3-5 soft zone, rush three that can't get even close, defense that let one of the absolute worst offenses in the league come back and make it another nail biter? Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: People are really going to bitch about this play-calling?
Absolutely I'm going to complain. When I tell my wife hey it's first down, what play do you think they'll run, and she knows to respond "run play" and she was barely watching the game...that's a problem.

RE: People are really going to bitch about this play-calling?
The first 80 seconds of the 3rd quarter that lead to the feld goal were fine and yes, we came out throwing a 40 yard pass to Julio. But after that, it all went ultra-predictable and conservative running out of only 2 different looking formations almost the rest of the game.
Here's the play-by-play in the 2nd half: From Atlanta 20 with 15:00 in 3rd: Deep pass to Julio 45 yards Short pass to Roddy incomplete Turner up middle 3 yards Shotgun pass 30 yards deep on 3rd and 7 incomplete to Julio (Ryan smashed into the ground) Bryant 50 yard fieldgoal 5 plays, 60 yards, 1:20 elapsed Seattle TD, 10 plays, 61 yards, 3:39 elapsed Next series from Atlanta 20 with 10:01 in 3rd: Turner up middle 7 yards Turner up middle 1 yard, offensive holding pen on Kelly Short pass to Julio 2 yards Shotgun pass to Julio 9 yards Shotgun pass 35 yards deep on 3rd and 9 incomplete to Julio Punt (48 yard punt, 7 yard return) 4 plays, 11 yards, 2:59 elapsed Seattle intercepted by DeCoud in endzone, 4 plays, 62 yards, 2:14 elapsed Next series from Atlanta 5 with 4:48 in 3rd: Turner up middle -2 yards Turner up middle 1 yard Shotgun pass 30 yards deep on 3rd and 11 incomplete to Julio Punt (40 yards, returned to Atl 11) 3 plays, -1 yard, 1:24 elapsed Seattle TD, 1 play, 11 yards, 0:03 elapsed Next series from Atlanta 20 with 3:07 in 3rd: Short pass to Julio 4 yards Short pass to White 8 yards Turner up middle -2 yards Pass to Tony 22 yards, def PI called Quizz up the middle 1 yard End of period Short pass to Julio 7 yards Shotgun pass to Tony incomplete, def offsides (saved us from punting) Short pass to Roddy incomplete Turner up middle 2 yards Short pass to Quizz 10 yards Turner up middle -2 yards Shotgun pass 30 yards to Julio incomplete Shotgun pass short to Palmer incomplete (Palmer!? REALLY!?) Bryant 42 yard fieldgoal 13 plays, 57 yards, 6:29 elapsed Seattle TD, 9 plays, 59 yards, 3:25 elapsed Next series from Atlanta 20 with 8:13 in 4th: (and the I-formation exclusive single look no-huddle starts) Turner up middle 1 yard (NH)Turner up middle 2 yards Shotgun pass 25 yards to Julio incomplete, def PI (saved us from punting) Short pass to Roddy 8 yards (NH)Short pass to Roddy incomplete Shotgun pass to Tony 6 yards Turner up middle 5 yards (NH)Short pass to Roddy incomplete Shotgun Ryan runs for 10 yards Turner up middle -2 yards (NH)Short pass to Tony 4 yards Shotgun pass 20 yards to Tony incomplete Punt (28 yards) 11 plays, 42 yards, 6:17 elapsed Seattle missed FG, 9 plays, 47 yards, 1:41 elapsed Game over. -------------------------------------------------- I see 12 Turner runs up the middle in 5 series that netted us a whopping +14 yards. 3 of our 5 second half series started with 2 Turner up the middle runs. The majority of the 2nd half plays were called out of the same formation. And if not for a defensive PI and a defensive off-sides, we would have punted the ball much earlier on the 2 longer drives. Now the frustrating thing about the 2nd half wasn't just the starting off 3 series with 2 Turner up the middle runs, but the fact the only thing we ran that looked anything like the first half was a single dump pass to Quizz, which he got 10 yards on and then we never tried it again. Every single other play looked just like every play DC's scheme against when they watch Falcon's film every week. Vanilla, predictable, and easy as hell to defend because it was virtually all from the same exact formation with only option Roddy, option Julio, option Tony, and option Turner to cover. No 3 or 4 WR sets. No play-action (which by the way we ran 6x in the first half and every one was a successful gain), no unique formations, and virtually nothing that resembles a play that helps a struggling OL and punishes defenses for stacking the box. And on top of that, every 3rd down was a heavy under pressure attempt at a 25+ yard deep pass with 3 possible receivers against 6 defenders in the secondary and 5 rushing. Didn't we already establish that our OL can't keep pressure off of Ryan for more than 2 seconds? So why the fuck do we keep exposing ourselves to stuffed runs up the middle and long 3rd down obvious passes????? I don't care what you think you saw or didn't, the 2nd half play calling was overwhelmingly different (meaning vanilla and predictable) than the 1st half for at least 80-90% of the calls. And the only adjustment we made was jumping into a just as predictable I-formation no-huddle on a whopping 4 plays. The rest were Mularkey vanilla coke. |
