Saints O-line looked terrible against the Rams and Chris Long looked like Reggie White in that game. That's the blueprint to beating the Saints, get pressure with your front 4 and drop 7 into coverage. Unfortunately our front 4 just can't get the job done. Abraham is having an off year, Ray Edwards just doesn't seem to have that burst you would like to see from a bookend rusher. Hindsight is 20/20 but I think Jason Babin would've been much better for us.

BVG blitzing isn't creative as well, it's so obvious when & where he's blitzing.

Hindsight? For me its just what I thought only less of what I actually gave him with my benefit of the doubt.

Its not just the numbers, its a TFL on the passing game and it rattles QB's. Just running into them after the ball is released does squat more times than not. So yeah, you want those numbers man and not just for numbers sakes.

The Saints right tackle in the Rams game was Charles Brown, a backup who was playing for injured starter Zach Strief. Brown suffered a hip flexor injury during the game and continued playing on it. He couldn't move out to block Long at all and Long had a free shot at Brees all day. Brown was placed on IR after the injury was discovered after the game.

In addition, the Saints best blocking TE, David Thomas, was also out while recovering from a concussion suffered early in the season. Both Strief and Thomas returned against the Bucs last week and Brees hardly got any pressure. The same happened this week against the Falcons. I tried to point these facts out several times over the past week. A high school team could have gotten to Brees the week they played the Rams with Brown in and Thomas/Strief out.

Hits and pressure can make all the difference. That hit that doesn't show up on the stat sheet could end up being a poorly thrown pass that is tipped for an interception, or ends up on the ground on a key down. That pressure could cause the QB to rush the pass or flush him out of the pocket, causing him to miss the guy on the other side of the field who was open. Both could rattle a QB's confidence in the offensive line, and cause that clock to start ticking down just half a second faster.

Although Abe didn't have the sacks in 09, he was still consistently providing pressures and hits. Abe isn't have a bad year this year either, even though the sacks haven't come.

Yes, I absolutely do. So does Abraham. Sacks are a reliable stat of quarterback pressure. We don't have either of those this season and quite frankly as a franchise haven't had much of it since Phillips was the DC.

No, they aren't. That's like using tackles to determine the quality of a line backer. I bet you think Pat Angerer is a monster LB as well.

Tackles are an arbitrary team assigned number. Sacks are actual events that took place that resulted in negative yards for the opposing team. If you don't think real stats "mean" anything then we have nothing else to say to each other on the topic.
