Falcons Panthers Fan Here...

RE: Panthers Fan Here...
I have no expectations for this game. Im almost expecting us to lose. Cam Newton and that Carolina team has played the top teams in the NFL very tough, and almost won some of them. We are not a top team.

I feel like our offense can move the ball on your defense, but I fear your run game will gash us like nobody's business and that could lead to a lot of long, time-consuming drives that keep Cam and co. on the sidelines.

At any rate, should be a good one as they usually are. Not here to talk smack, just to discuss/debate the game as I do in the week prior to all our games at the other team's message board. Most importantly I hope both teams come out of this game without any major injuries [Image: beercheers.gif]

I think Cam is playing above his head and will continue to think that until Carolina starts winning football games.

You are dead on about us controlling the clock. When our offense is on, we do it better than anyone in the NFL. We have blown some coverages this season that resulted in teams getting very brief drives with huge TD passes on the tail end.

I am not sure how clean your OLine can keep Cam when he has to make hard decisions about where to go with the ball. I hope we focus heavily on containing the edges (screens and QB scrambles) this week, we will need it for this game.

Injury free would be nice! The GB game saw Abe (starting DE) out, McClure (starting C) out, Willie Mo (starting SS) out early, JJ (starting WR) out late, and Roddy (starting WR) on the field but gimpy.

I hope we get our guys back on the field for this game, we need to make a statement against a divisional opponent. I hate to break the news to you, but we are going to crush the Panthers. Wink

P.S. You are wrong about Matt and our Coordinators.

Cam is the only reason we've been in any of our games this season. He's carrying this team on his back right now and no rookie is THAT good, hence the losses. Our defense has been terrible outside of Chris Gamble at CB and our DE's (Charles Johnson + Greg Hardy). Losing Beason & Thomas Davis has only made it worse.

But on offense we've been great. So far we're 3rd in the NFL in passing offense, which is crazy when you consider we were dead last just a season ago. Our run game was very slow to start the season, but has picked up big-time the last 2 games.

Right now Cam has 1,610 yards passing, 7 TD's, 6 INT's + 160 yards rushing with 5 TD's. He has been our offense along with Steve Smith, who has 27 catches for 609 yards + 3 TD's. We've also got two very good TE's in Greg Olsen (20 catches, 240 yards, 3 TD's) & Jeremy Shockey (14 catches, 201 yards). Only thing we really lack is a true #2 WR, though Brandon LaFell has played well in limited action (5 catches, 181 yards, TD) he's still the 3rd WR.

So basically, the reason we're 1-4 has very little to do with Cam. It's almost exclusively on our defense and special teams. Cam has been amazing, particularly so for a rookie with no offseason to prepare. I can only imagine how good he's going to be in 2-3 years once he really 'gets' it.

Hopefully by then the rest of the team will have caught up with him and we can be really dangerous.

Wins are what matter.

You are right, no rookie starting QB is THAT good. Matt Ryan was about the best you could get out of a rookie starting QB. Cam Newton is no Matt Ryan.

As soon as defenses start scheming specifically to limit Cam's ability to make quick reads or run the ball, his stats/play will come down to earth. Right now the Panthers are an unknown quantity and on the bad team end of the spectrum. If they ever start winning football games this year you can bet your ass coaches around the league will start scheming to make Cam look like hot garbage.

Shit they've had 5 games to do so, what are they doing, biding their time? ::Random NFL Defensive Coordinator:: "in Week 10, we strike Newton! Muahahahahaha!" Nah, it's not happening like that brah.

Thus far, only Mother Nature herself has limited Cam in the Monsoon Bowl against Jacksonville. Yall absolutely kill me. Cam is the real deal. He's keeping a team with like 18 defensive players on IR in the thick of things every game and the entire offense flows through him, despite two good RB's on the roster. That's incredible IMO.

Is he a hall of famer? No, he's a rookie. But he's having a remarkable rookie season through 5 games.

Newton didn't put up glaringly good numbers against New Orleans. He was only 16-31 for 228 yards. 51.6% under ideal weather conditions is pretty bad in today's NFL. He added a whopping 27 yards on 7 carries. Woohoo!
