Okay "true Falcons fans", sell me on Koetter

I'm just bringing up the guys resume which according to some is crap. I beg to differ.

I think Petrino stayed long enough to prove without a shadow of a doubt his ineptitude at coaching in the NFL. I can only hope the Bucs feel differently.

As for Koetter. Sure he accomplished some nice things in the NCAA but his resume means little to me as a head coach it is just a different deal.

His NFL resume isn't glowing either. But like others have said you can't blame him for all the Jags woes. Once I got past the surface layer there are some positives. I like that his philosophy is different than Mularkey's. That alone has my interest, I'm very curious to see what Ryan will do in a different system. There is not much sense in me trying to predict what our system will look like or how good or bad it will be. He seems to be a guy that will tailor the scheme to the personnel. so we will all find out more in due time.

No chance for him to be great??

That's so obtuse and closed-minded it's pathetic. You don't and can't possibly know if he will or won't be great when all is said and done.

We had a predictable as fuck run-first dink-n-dunk OC and we asked for someone who is the opposite of that and this is exactly what Koetter is.

Personnel DOES matter. You can't coach up crap, no matter how great or innovative you are. There are dozens of top tier great and innovative coaches out there who were at one time not considered great or innovative, but it just took the right situation with the right personnel to change that perspective.

You are acting foolish.

solid consistent play at the right gaurd with the use of screen passes will give matt MOAR time in the pocket. this extra time in the pocket will allow julio roddy gonz quizz snelling whoever to get open. plus it will keep his feet clean he can step into his throws making the deep ball MOAR effective.

They are asking the same questions on the radio. Asking why we hired an unproven person to lead our offense is totally reasonable, and not "pounding the table". You read it how you want, but you have been nothing but condescending and offered little. You could fill in the blank with any name and your argument would be the same whether it was Dirk Koetter or Dolly Parton.

Dolly Parton is a well respected football mind in league circles.

Dolly Parton had little to no talent to work with in her last stint as OC.

Dolly Parton has a career history that is nearly identical to that of Ralph Friedgen, who everyone seemingly would be thrilled to have.

No, doesn't quite work, does it?

The answers to your questions have been provided, but the tantrum you've been throwing is so loud you just can't hear them.

I'm not going to try to sell him, but in theory he seems to want everything the hardcore Anti-Mularkey crowd has been wanting, he just doesn't have the sexy name to go with it.

I think the chemistry thing is just as important with the coaches as it is with the players. My hope is that we place him in an environment where he can thrive.

I think that will be the case. For one thing, Smith has to know Blank is serious, he has to know that he can't fuck this up or his ass is next. Is it more likely that Smith hired Koetter as a comfy blanky or that he believed he was a guy who can change the offense for the better and win. My guess is that Mularkey is the one that acts out of fear. We'll find out who the real pussy was next year but I can say with certainty that if I could choose between giving Koetter his shot or having Mularkey back that's not even a choice, unlike with Mularkey, at the very least not knowing exactly what to expect is a welcomed change. No risk no reward.

Another thought was in the interview Smith said that he wants to run more screens. Well, he's the head coach and if he wanted to run some screens then he certainly could have made that happen. Maybe this indicates that he was indeed letting Mularkey have full control of the offense, so Koetter would be given the same latitude. He's a dumbass if he doesn't. Sink or swim time.

To me, however this all plays out, this is when we are going to find out what this franchise is really made of.

For me, at some point I just lost faith in the Mularkey led offense. It's not that we couldn't win, but it was clear we had reached his limits. I think part of the inconsistency was him just "trying things".

I posted this pictorial a while ago that kinda sums it up:

And what are you basing that on?

Falcons knew MM was gone a month before the public did. Plenty of time for a thorough search.
