Talk me off the ledge. Tell me what this guy has done, why this was the right hire, and why I should go into the 2012 season optimistic and content with the hire. All I've received are insults and comments that I'm not a real fan.
What has this guy done to convince you that we will get over the playoff hump next season? Really, I want to know. I don't want to be Chicken Little, I don't want to be negative or pessimistic. Honestly, I hate feeling like this. Tell me how Dirk Koetter is going to get the Falcons to the Super Bowl over any other NFL candidate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3CXS04cy...re=related |

I'll be over it once we hire a DC. Until I know who we hire, I can't avoid the boards. I'm going into next season with the assumption we take a step back, and hope I'm pleasantly surprised. This offseason will be spent playing my guitar and trying to get proficient to play in public without embarrassment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3CXS04cy...re=related |

RE: Okay "true Falcons fans", sell me on Koetter
There have been quite a few posts on this very forum: interviews in which he details his ideal offensive strategy, some videos of his offenses in action, articles where other Coaches/GMs/(Marginally important analysts and reporters) talk about how they are impressed by him, and his previous accomplishments in the NCAA and NFL have been pointed out numerous times. Check them out, maybe even do a bit more digging yourself if you are still not convinced. Most importantly, come to the realization that NO ONE knows how he will do until he starts putting his product on the field.
The bottom line is that NO ONE can sell you on this hire if you are willing to ignore all things positive in favor of focusing on one negative fact that ignores the circumstances surrounding it. This guy might not be a coach with a prominent "name" but he does have a very detailed history of success and seems very knowledgeable about the game of football, specifically the passing game. He has not even given a single interview (that I am aware of) as the OC of our Falcons or coached a single game for our organization with quality talent at every skill position on offense. I repeat, no one can sell you on this hire if you aren't willing to consider ALL the facts and history. |

I agree, nobody can sell me on this hire except Dirk Koetter. We'll see what he comes up with.
Terrible PR move though, I think the Falcons are going to have a ton of empty seats if they lose a couple of games early next year. |

PR doesn't help this team put up winning seasons or playoff wins. Sorry, but if that is the sticking point as to why this is a bad hire the argument is already lost, in my opinion.

Most importantly, come to the realization that NO ONE knows how he will do until he starts putting his product on the field. I've read everything I could find, and besides Brandt and Kuharsky praising him, nothing. I see a mediocre college record, and a far more mediocre NFL career. I see an inability to beat superior teams. I don't recall many coaches or GMs going out of their way saying he was great, or any GMs or Coaches publicly saying they don't like the hire. Could you honestly see Mickey Loomis or Ted Thompson coming out and saying " WHAT ARE THE FALCONS THINKING?". I don't recall anything saying the Falcons should hire Koetter prior to this, besides the typical lazy assumptions because he was on the Jags. GMs and Coaches don't diss people they could end up working with or for. We see the words "vertical" and "screen" and that's all we need? No where close to good enough. Someone convince me that prior to this hiring, anyone thought he was the best man for the job. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3CXS04cy...re=related |

Imagine Koetter with our weapons in this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZIcmxljM...ata_player He only had freaking MJD for a weapon lets be honest. You combine the Jags and Falcons offense and MJD is the only one that would start for us. |
