If we go into the season with JPW as the backup we are literally one play away from season over. I still think David Garrard could get a look at back-up given his familiarity with Koetter. I am not sold on Bell only because of his injury history if there was a chance at Gaither I would go after him first. ![]()

RE: Offseason Moves I Feel Should Be Made
First of all, my compliments to your post. It is an organized and logical approach to the off season. Here are a few of my thoughts:
1. Clearly, offensive line must be the priority. You have addressed this issue, but I would suggest that it would be better to stick with Svitek at LT and go all out for either Grubbs or Nicks. Additionally, I would move Hawley to OC. I would probably sign McClure to a smaller contract to provide competition. I think the job is Hawley's to lose. 2. I am in favor of moving Turner for a fourth rounder. I feel that Snelling is ready to be a featured RB, particularly in our new offense. Turner has been great, but his price tag is simply too high. With the expected upgrade of the OL, I think that we can match our run stats with Snelling and Rodgers. 3. I prefer to keep DeCoud. He should come to us at a reasonable price. He has the physical talent. With different coaching and scheme, he may start fulfilling his promise. 4. I would not give up on Jerry. He will probably not live up to his draft status, but I think that he is able to play the 4-3(DT) and 3-4(DE). 5. No to Ginn. We have our two starters and Weems can step up into the slot. Weems reminds me of Welker and Best. I like him for his guts and determination. 6. Abraham is a part time player. We can put our cap space to better use. Campbell is a good idea. I would also consider Mathis. Of course, the big prize would be Mario Williams. We probably can't afford him, so a player like Campbell is a good alternative. 7. I am not prepared to discuss draft prospects, but I like your strategy. I think it would be best to go for a developmental LT in the fifth round. I think we already have two young guys that can become our OC of the future (Hawley and Johnson). If an undeveloped LT prospect falls to our #52 pick, I would take him. |

RE: Offseason Moves I Feel Should Be Made
Take into consideration the cost of keeping Grimes, Turner, Douglas and Abraham. I think that for the same money, we might be able to sign Nicks and Williams. If that is true, I'd prefer Williams and Nicks.

Have all these people who believe Snelling is starter material ever even seen him play? Good god, he makes Michael Turner look like Barry Sanders. And this is coming from someone who has been lobbying for quite some time to see Turner's role significantly reduced. There is a reason why not one single other team was willing to pick up Snelling after he hit the free agent market last offseason. The guy possesses absolutely no speed, no burst and no elusiveness. Unfortunately, you need at least one of those qualities to be a viable RB in the NFL. That little breaking tackles thing Snelling does once or twice a season can't be sustained over a full 16 games. Feature back my ass. |

RE: Offseason Moves I Feel Should Be Made
^^ What cooper said.
Other than Quizz, I really don't like our RB situation. Snelling is too small to play FB, too big and slow to be a 3rd down HB, and has zero finesse of a 3 down feature RB. He's great at his current role, backup. |
