RE: Off season personnel plan
Where have people picked up this idea that Turner is some overweight fat-ass? He said that coming into 09, he hadn't put in the work like he should because of the Pro Bowl, but ever since then it's been nothing but good things coming out about him.

Well, if that is directed at my comments about him dropping 10-15 lbs, I never said that he was a fat ass. That being said, you can look at his facial structure and arms and tell that his body fat percentage is higher than would be ideal. Dropping his body fat percentage would do nothing but aid his explosiveness. It is obvious that, even at his current weight he has good burst and top end speed, but could you imagine if he maximized what his body is fully capable of? There is a great deal of difference in being a "fat ass" and having a body fat percentage that is too high to maximize athletic potential. |

Off season personnel plan

Let's see what he can do in training camp. Sorry, but I have lost complete faith I'm Baker. He has done nothing but get worse every year. This year was pathetic. If he was injured enough to play like that he might as well have been put on IR |

RE: Off season personnel plan
I fully agree that Turner needs to drop 10-15 pounds of fat. I'm not sure how anyone can argue that that would not help a 30 year old 242 pound running back. Does anybody else notice that players joke about Turner loving cheeseburgers all the time? I bet I've heard 5 or 6 jokes from players just this season.
I'm a little bit on the fence about losing Turner, but if he drops that weight we might should keep him. Everyone knows he is not a threat to catch the ball so it is more than likely a pass when he goes in. He did actually make some catches this season, which was surprising, but you can't really trust him too much with that. He dropped some very easy passes. What do you guys think we could get in a trade for Turner? I seriously don't know what anyone would be willing to give up for a 242lb 30 year old running back with a big salary. Mike Smith will still want to run the ball some and if our main RB can't even be traded for a decent pick then what does that say? I was saying all year that Smith wants to be a power running team, but the Saints have a better backfield than we do. How is that good? How do you compete with a team who has Drew Brees and all of those receivers and still has better running backs than us? I think it really depends on what Koetter sees and wants to do. Maybe he thinks he can do some really good things with Turner, but Turner needs to be catching passes and losing weight with TG all off season. I hate to say it, but I think we all know that wont happen. I will be happy bringing in Peyton Hillis and trading Turner. We would have Hillis, Snelling, Rodgers, Ovie, and Smith, plus another draft pick. All of those guys can catch, block, and run over people. |

RE: Off season personnel plan
My entire problem with Turner and wanting him gone has nothing to do with his age, weight, speed, or production, it's simply that his lining up in our backfield at any time makes that particular play significantly more predictable than if someone else were back there.
And you stick a FB in front of him in any type of i-formation and it's even worse. Everybody in the building knows what's coming in that instance. Then this creates a snowball effect for everyone else you ever substitute. If we create the pattern that we run 85% of the time with Turner in and we do an edge/spread/screen/wheel/pass play 85% of the time when someone other than Turner is back there, like Quizz or Snelling, then we are significantly increasing the other teams ability to call the proper defense against us on any given play. I like Turner. But I think he hurts our entire offense much more than he benefits us. And if Koetter wants to make us a lot more unpredictable, then Turner has to go and we need a RB by committee setup that doesn't single out any one RB for a typical specific role. |

RE: Off season personnel plan
get a dominant right gaurd and i bet you turner breaks a lot more 20 yard runs. he's hell in the 2nd level but in the third level he's deadly. that's what we need is a gaurd that can block 2 or 3 guys
