RE: OC candidate thread
Brian Billick is the best candidate and we would be smart to grab him if he is available. His time as OC has been tremendous and even after he fired Jim fassel with he was Bmore's HC he took over the offensive duties and he was phenomenol again. Matter of fact he turned that offense from mediocre to good midseason.
I don't know why many think he isn't a good OC and throughout this thread many are comparing someone's skill as a HC to their skill as an OC. Newsflash: It's not the same thing. Hue Jackson would be fine if he wasn't a jerk, but wasn't he the OC for the Bengals when they had both T.O. and Ocho with Benson at RB. When Palmer wasn't throwing a million interceptions that offense was good. |

RE: OC candidate thread
I think Billick would be a great choice. He knows a lot about football. I don't know if he wants to be an OC instead of what he is doing now, but keep in mind Smitty and Billick are married to sisters. Billick's wife might want to live in the same city as her sister so they can be close and their kids can be close. I don't know if that is the case or not, but it can't hurt.

Of course that might also be a reason why it would not happen. Imagine the family dynamic if things didn't work out and you have to fire your brother in law. The wives might have quite a bit to say about that. |

I highly doubt that Jackson would be the OC here. He was the OC here in 2007, and that was our worst year since Blank became owner. I know you could blame that on everything else that happened that year but I doubt Blank will want to try him again. Oh and Bob Bratkowski was the OC there during that time.(2001-2010)

RE: OC candidate thread
To be fair, Petrino ran the offense when he was here, and there wasn't much to work with either.

RE: OC candidate thread
Billick's offensive success came when he had Culpepper (in his prime), Randy Moss, Chris Carter, Robert Smith and an excellent OL. The entire offense depended on Smith's great running mixed with Culpepper chucking the ball forty yards deep to Moss. There was little sophistication.
I am not saying that Billick can not handle the Oc position, I am just saying that there has to be better candidates. I would put my trust in Tom Clements. He understands the QB position very well and has training in the system that I think would work best with our offensive personnel. |

RE: OC candidate thread
there's no way we hire billick, he's said numerous times he wouldn't take the job because he didn't want to put that kind of pressure on his bro.
