My Cap and FA Breakdown
Ok, so let's try to put our collective heads together here and see if we can get a more accurate number than the Bowtie Retard's $5.8M, which seems very inaccurate.

PY: Falcons $30.6M under cap for 2012

Per this update on Feb. 13th by PY, quoted by atljbo, we were $30.6M UNDER the 2011 cap figure of $120.375 (we didn't know the exact 2012 number yet). Now we know that 2012 cap max is $120.6, which would actually make us $30.825 under this year's cap before any of the signings of late even started.

Now, add to the $30.825 another $1.55m for Dunta's renegotiation. So $32.375 is our starting point.

Now lets add the debits:

Grimes: $10.281m
Biermann: $2.14m
Tatupu: $2.4m
Snelling: $1.1m
DeCoud: $2m
Manuwai: $2m (this is a highball guess since his contract wasn't disclosed)
Antone Smith: $540k (1-yr tender)
Palmer: $540k (1-yr tender)

For a grand total of $21m. Which still leaves us at $11.375m under the cap right at this moment.

On top of that, we can borrow $1.5m from next year's cap and we'll likely free up another $3m releasing Ovie, which is pretty much a certainty at this point. Which would put us really at about $15.875 under. Plus there's still a chance of more getting released and other contracts getting renegotiated (like Ryan's).

UFA's yet to be re-signed:
Abraham - which I think we all agree isn't going to happen.
Lofton - which I personally think he's gone.
Douglas - I really hope we do re-sign and I believe he's one of the targets.
McClure - I'll be fine if we don't re-sign and just go with Hawley and draft another OC.
Peterson - if Lofton goes, Peterson possibly re-signs, otherwise he's probably gone.
Redman - we'll re-sign him for cheap. He's better than JPW.
Weems - 50/50 here depending on FA, who we draft, and if they want Franks to be the KR.
Sanders - I think we re-sign him to another 1-yr deal.
Hayden - depends on if we draft a CB, which is likely, so my guess is he's gone.
Zelenka - unless Hawley is demoted to LS or we sign a younger UDFA, he stays.
Romberg - very unlikely as we're probably either re-signing McClure or drafting another OC.
Chambers - very unlikely as we're probably drafting OL and also picking up an OL in FA.
Kelly - please lord no, let us draft another TE, we already gave Palmer a tender.

RFA's:
Walker - He's the only RFA we got and I do think we re-sign him. He's been very solid depth for us.

So really we've re-signed 4 (considering Grimes as 1 of the 4) of the "9" guys that TD said we really wanted to re-sign (yes he changed the number from 8 to 9 after first saying 8). And we have about $15.875 left to get the rest, plus I still think we go after either a big name LT or OG in FA.

Which is?

And PY's $30.6 number should have already included it. That number should be the base we had to work with.

I thought PY came out today and pretty much agreed with the 5.6 figure, or whatever it should have been. Mentioned something about escalators not being factored in for the previous comment. I can't beleive that there are 9+ million in escalators, but who knows.

RE: My Cap and FA Breakdown
Because of the penalties levied against the Redskins and Cowboys, we'll be getting an extra $1.6 mil of cap space to be used over the next 2 seasons, so we could add in up to another 1.6 million.

Link?

Have we even released anyone so far this year? How can we have any escalators at all, much less $9m worth?

I know if we released someone in 2011 after a certain date, they're guaranteed money would combine and count against 2012, but the only people I can think of are JA98, Jenkins, Coleman, and Williams, all of which were released before FA even started last year, so they would have counted against last year's numbers, not this year.

I agree with your sentiment, and there isn't really a link to a legit sight, just a thread on AFMB:

RE: My Cap and FA Breakdown
Ok, via http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/atlanta-falcons/cap-hit/, here's the numbers we know.

Quote:PLAYER - POS - CAP FIGURE
Matt Ryan - QB - $13,000,000.00
Brent Grimes - CB - $10,431,000.00
Roddy White - WR - $8,025,000.00
Michael Turner - RB - $7,500,000.00
Dunta Robinson - CB - $6,400,000.00
Tony Gonzalez - TE - $5,900,000.00
Jonathan Babineaux - DT - $5,696,000.00
Ray Edwards - DE - $5,200,000.00
Justin Blalock - G - $4,800,000.00
Tyson Clabo - T - $4,750,000.00
Ovie Mughelli - RB - $3,833,333.00
Sam Baker - T - $3,700,250.00
Julio Jones - WR - $3,678,125.00
Stephen Nicholas - LB - $3,500,000.00
Kroy Biermann - LB - $2,133,333.00
Matt Bryant - K - $2,050,000.00
Thomas DeCoud - S - $2,000,000.00
Jason Snelling - RB - $1,058,333.00
Will Svitek - T - $951,000.00
Peria Jerry - DT - $845,000.00
William Moore - S - $840,000.00
Sean Weatherspoon - LB - $826,250.00
Christopher Owens - CB - $737,000.00
Mike Johnson - G - $700,500.00
Mike Cox - FB - $700,000.00
Corey Peters - DT - $681,750.00
Lawrence Sidbury - DE - $675,250.00
Joe Hawley - G - $660,000.00
Akeem Dent - LB - $635,625.00
Garrett Reynolds - T - $610,150.00
Spencer Adkins - LB - $594,762.00
Dominique Franks - CB - $542,762.00
Antoine Smith - RB - $540,000.00
Michael Palmer - TE - $540,000.00
Kerry Meier - WR - $529,250.00
Shann Schillinger - S - $521,250.00
Jacquizz Rodgers - RB - $512,750.00
Cliff Matthews - DE - $495,500.00
Matt Bosher - P - $488,950.00
Darrin Walls - CB - $465,000.00
Kevin Cone - WR - $390,000.00
Robert James - LB - $390,000.00
Dead Money - $2,210,000.00

All of that comes out to $110,738,123.00 in used cap space. Taking into account last year's cap rollover of $527,000.00, borrowing $1.5million from next season's cap, and adding in all of the $1.6 million we should expect from the Cowboys/Redskins fines, our starting cap line would be $124,227,000.00. Without the $1.5 million borrowed, our cap would be $122,727,000.00.

So, based on this, we know we would have a starting point of $11,988,877.00 remaining on the cap. This is before the Tatupa and Manuwai signings, which will probably take up another 3-4 million of the cap.

RE: My Cap and FA Breakdown
Everything I've read says Grimes is $10.281 and Dunta is an even $6.

Either way, it looks like worse case is we're at about $8-9m before adding the $1.5m we can borrow and the inevitable $3m from releasing Ovie.

Where did you get the dead money number from, by the way?

From the cuts of Jamaal Anderson ($1,110,000.00), Chauncey Davis ($900,000.00), and Michael Jenkins ($200,000.00).
